Advise On Getting A Type O Visa In Kl For Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

Hi

Any advice or input on the following appreciated, note I have done quite a bit of research on the forum already just needed confirmations.

I am a British expat, 57 years old, working a 4 / 4 schedule. I have been working in Thailand and now will be working in Malaysia but continuing to live in Thailand. I am not married.

Hence I am on a work visa at the moment due to run out soon.

I would like to have a retirement visa for Thailand and understand the first step is to get a type O visa which I plan to get from Kuala Lumphur.

My questions is what paperwork do they need actually.

I have checked the website

http://www.thaiembassy.com/retire/retire.php

And they seem to want quite a lot.

I have a Thailand passbook with in excess of 800 K in that has been there for over 3 months.

Valid passport

Passport photographs

Is this enough for me to get Type O visa and if so can I get a multiple entry?

Also period of time do they give the type O visa for?

Should I go to KL and fail for lack of a item of paperwork to get my type O visa what visa should I get to re-enter Thailand to complete my paperwork

Many thanks

That is not an official web site for Thailand and the information is not what you need.

1. There is no need for a non immigrant visa entry if you meet retirement qualifications (have embassy paper of 65k monthly income or have 800k in Thai bank account 3 months) as the visa can be immediately issued by Immigration if you have 21 days or more remaining on a permitted to stay stamp at a cost of 2,000 baht.

2. If you obtain visa outside Thailand the requirement is normally being over age 50 and telling them you want it for retirement extension inside Thailand. Having bank account book might help but is not a normal requirement.

3. There is no need for a multi entry if you plan on retirement extension of stay - that is a one year permitted to stay stamp from Immigration and for travel you obtain re-entry permit from Immigration.

4. I doubt they will issue a multi entry visa as you do not need it for retirement (although for your job it would fit).

I would visit immigration with 21 days or more remaining on any entry (visa exempt included) with several 4x6 current photos, your bank passbook/copies and a letter of account balance from bank manager. For 2,000 baht you should be able to obtain the required visa and another 1,900 baht for one year extension of stay and 3,800 baht for one year multi re-entry permit.

It could be they will say apply for extension with 30 days or less remaining rather than immediately so if that happens you would get a single re-entry permit and then on next visit to Thailand when under 30 days remaining apply for the extension and multi re-entry permit. It is really very easy.
