June 2, 200818 yr Hey all, What is the difference between a smartpass and a 30-day smartpass? From what I've read on the website: A 30-day smartpass is purchased for 600 (or 900 baht) and is used for 30 (or 40 trips), each trip being 20 baht each. Sounds like a pretty good deal especially if one is travelling the 30 to 40 baht distances. Once the 30 days or the number of trips purchased on the card runs out, then you can refill the card for the same price. Correct me if I'm wrong. The smartpass is used as storing your baht but each commuter has to pay the regular price (20 to 40 baht). Is this correct? If so, why on earth would anyone want to purchase a smartpass as opposed to a 30-day smartpass? Am I missing something here?
June 2, 200818 yr If so, why on earth would anyone want to purchase a smartpass as opposed to a 30-day smartpass? Am I missing something here? I would be lucky to use the BTS 5 times in a month. If I bought a 30 day smartpass discounted or not then I would be wasting money paying for trips I'll never use. If I think I will be doing a lot of travel in a day then I can buy a day pass, unlimited travel for I think 120 baht. I have a regular smartpass because it means I don't have to worry about having change to buy a ticket or wait in line behind someone who can't figure out how to work a ticket machine. They're good for 5 years as they are in Singapore (their pass covers almost every form of transport) so while I suppose I'm giving the BTS a small interest free loan, the convenience makes it worth it, even without any discount.
June 3, 200818 yr The 5 year Smartpass does knock off 2 Baht per trip or sector I think. The 30 day pass is a better buy for the those who take longer trips on the BTS. I just keep loading the 5 year one for the convenience. I heard that there is a BTS promotion of some kind this month.
