Yes Silly Season's here again. Someone must have told them Rangers had some money to spend ! We've only just fixed the bank and the papers want to break it again.

After Fosters quote about the best year of his life, the Dons fans are going to give him pelters next season ! Very soon wee Craig's going to have a very unpopular and totally de-motivated full back on his hands. If Ally really wants him back ( why ?) i'd be tempted to offer them a very low take it or leave it offer. If rejected look elsewhere. We need to start being more cagey in the transfer market or this supposed £10 million's not going to last very long.

No cheap deal, warns Craig Brown

RANGERS were today warned they will have to dig deep if they hope to sign Aberdeen FC full-back Richard Foster in the summer.

New Gers boss Ally McCoist is understood to be keen to retain Foster, who joined them on loan from Aberdeen FC at the start of last season and helped the Light Blues retain the SPL title.

Foster is also believed to be eager to return to Rangers for a second crack at Champions League football next season after describing the spell at Ibrox as “the best year of my life”.

After their last minute attempt to scupper Whyte's deal and their negative press statements about it, Johnston, Bain and co. must have known their days were numbered. The only mystery is why it's taken so long !

The board were looking for a Sugar Daddy to clear the debt with the bank, then walk away and let the status quo prevail. The board would have kept their cushy little jobs and the club would have continued to lumber along from season to season on it's knees. Instead they got an owner who has new ideas and who is looking for new opportunities to expand the Rangers brand.

Whyte is first and foremost a businessman and this is a takeover. Like any other takeover the new owner chops out the deadwood and replaces it with his own men with fresh ideas and newly motivated staff.

Johnston has been eerily quiet for the last 18 months when the clubs been in turmoil - too busy playing golf in America. Strange that he's suddenly become so vocal now that his own necks on the line. Bain's done very well from RFC with his £600K salary. What does he do for his money ? He's been totally ineffectual and an absolute bomb scare in the transfer market. Gentlemen Rangers FC have an exciting new future and you're not part of it. Kindly leave.

Wont be slinking anywhere, anytime soon i'm afraid. New owner, bank debt wiped out, fresh investment, Champions league football, new manager, just won league and cup double. Yes indeed very exciting times.

It may surprise you to know Rangers average home attendance for year 2009/10 ( latest available ) was 47564. Only Man Utd and Arsenal from the "big league" can boast more. Man City in 3rd had 46382.

May be a small pond but to those of us who live here, it's pretty dam_n important. I wont take issue with you about the shallow part - having a 2 horse race for the title every year isn't healthy. Remind me again, how many winners of the EPL in the last 7 years ?

ALLY McCOIST admits he has set his sights high as his Rangers reign officially begins.

The new Gers boss had high level talks with the club's majority shareholder Craig Whyte yesterday.

McCoist has drafted a list of potential summer signing targets which he handed over to Whyte at the Ibrox summit.

And he revealed he's looking for the new owner to shell out on QUALITY stars.

Out of contract Blackpool ace David Vaughan looks set to be McCoist's first ever capture.

But he hopes the 28-year-old Wales midfielder is just the first of many as he believes as many as FIVE new players are needed.

Dundee United winger Craig Conway is available on a Bosman and is on Gers' radar after leaving Tannadice, but he has options in England.

McCoist and Whyte are keen to offer new deals to Steven Davis, Madjid Bougherra and Steven Whittaker.

El Hadji Diouf and Vladimir Weiss want to extend their Ibrox stays while McCoist could try and land Arsenal's Kyle Bartley on loan once more.

The Rangers boss said: "We have had a number of discussions since the takeover and our latest meeting was to agree on our priorities for next season.

"The most important thing to emerge is that we both hold the same hopes and desire for success for the team and that's a great start.

"We are both keen to re-sign key players who did so brilliantly in helping land our latest league title and to ensure we can attract players of a certain quality to Ibrox.

"I have a clear list of signing targets in mind and that will be my priority over the next few weeks. I plan to spend wisely on transfers and new contracts to maximise the benefit to the club.

"It's all about getting the right balance. We invested heavily in Nikica Jelavic and every penny of that looks well spent. However, it's not always the case of the more money you spend on a particular player the better.

"We've had players coming through the ranks, loan players who have done a tremendous job and others who did not cost a great deal. It's more important to get the right blend.

"The club enjoyed great success last season and I'm looking to build on that."

Gers captain Davie Weir was inducted into the Ibrox Hall of Fame this week and he too could be offered a new contract.

But last night Weir, whose deal expires on Tuesday, said: "I've not had a chance to speak to Ally but once I do things will be a bit clearer. I'll play on next season but whether that is at Rangers is dependent on other people."

Meanwhile, Gers will play Linfield in Belfast on July 16.

Rangers fans will be delighted to learn that every time they view the Champions League logo - you know the flag with 8 stars waved around before every CL match - one of the stars represents Rangers FC. The stars represent "the star football clubs of Europe". " The original 8 clubs in the first true UEFA Champions League season in 1992-93 experienced an approach to match organisation and commercialisation that was very new. Their stadium had to be made clean of all existing branding, new positions had to be created for an increased number and quality of TV coverage, hospitality suites and best-seated tickets had to be turned over for UEFA sponsors.

As the UEFA Champions League developed it became clear that the financial rewards for the clubs were more substantial than had previously been possible. Secondly, the clubs were part of something that was much bigger than the previous competition."

Rangers FC were of course one of the original 8 clubs in season 1992-93, when bizarrely, you actually had to be CHAMPIONS of your home league to qualify for the CHAMPIONS league. The clue's in the title but money talks, i guess !

Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar is excited by the prospect of returning to Rangers, with the Spaniard praising "the city, the club, the people" as speculation mounts about a move to Ibrox.

Cuellar, 29, quit the Scottish champions for Aston Villa three years ago after just one season at Rangers. The Spanish centre-back impressed in that campaign though as the Gers won a domestic cup double and reached the UEFA Cup final.

Now he has been linked with a move back to the Glasgow giants as new boss Ally McCoist prepares for his first campaign at the helm and the former Osasuna man welcomed the prospect of a move north of the border.

Cuellar told the Daily Record: "I have to find out what Villa want me to do but I'm very surprised to hear that Rangers want me back. It's exciting because Rangers, for me, has so many good memories.

"It's exciting if there is a possibility to go back because all of those good memories come back - the city, the club, the people, how much they loved me and how much I loved them.

"Then there is the Champions League and the chance to win trophies again. Who wouldn't be excited about something like that?"

Cuellar fell out of favour at Villa Park under Gerrard Houllier in the 2010-11 season, starting just ten Premier League games, but he may be tempted to see if he features in the new manager's plans.

Miller and his family have struggled to settle off the pitch in Turkey following his January move from Rangers to Bursaspor. He was the top goalscorer in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League last season despite leaving in the winter, having struck 21 goals.

McCoist, who has lost striker Kyle Lafferty for the season opener against Hearts with a groin injury, said: "Kenny has never been out of my thoughts. He is a player who did very, very well for us.

"I certainly wouldn't rule Kenny out but I haven't spoken to him at any great length about it because he is still under contract at Bursaspor.

"It's an avenue we will look at as Kenny ticks all the boxes in terms of what we're looking for.

"I'd imagine I'll be speaking to him again in the next couple of days.''

Bursaspor have told Rangers they will have to pay "serious money'' to bring Miller back.

"If the circumstances are right, if things are good, and the conditions are correct, then why not?'' Bursaspor's director of transfers, Erkan Kamat, was quoted as telling STV. "But Rangers have to pay serious money, a good transfer fee.

"If Rangers are opening the door, we can maybe settle something. It can happen but it is not just a case of opening the door, it's not that easy. At the moment I am not talking about his valuation. We will see what Rangers want to do.''

Last month Rangers refused to entertain several offers from Bursaspor for defender Steven Whittaker but Kamat shrugged off his disappointment.

"I wanted to sign Steven Whittaker but Rangers always gave me a no answer,'' he added. "In fact they didn't even get back in touch with me. I will have to make a plan. I can't say anymore just now. I will meet Kenny tomorrow, and then we will have a clearer picture.''

Proven goal scorer at this level. Incredibly he was highest scorer in SPL last season despite leaving in January !

Knows all about Rangers and should fit back in seamlessly.

IMO would make a great partnership with Jela.

If we can get him on a 2 year contract for around the £400 K we sold him for i would take him back.

In this transfer market for this price there simply isn't better value for money out there.

He would have to accept a huge wage cut ( from around 50K a week i think ) to half that.

We really need to start getting a few players in mate - latest rumour is that the Cuellar deal might be on again and that Gordon Smith is in Italy for talks with Gattuso !

Rangers boss Ally McCoist eyes Chelsea fringe players

Ally McCoist could ask his old mate, Andre Villas-Boas, for some of his Chelsea fringe players in a bid to bolster the Scottish champions' squad.

The Rangers boss and Villa-Boas first met at coaching courses in Largs. And their sides played out a friendly won 3-1 by the Londoners at Ibrox, with Daniel Sturridge scoring a double.

"I had a good chat with Andre before the game and I am going to see him now and we will talk about out a few things," said McCoist.

McCoist this week secured the return of Kyle Bartley on a second loan spell after the central defender signed a new contract with Arsenal.

And the Rangers manager was pleased with the 20-year-old's performance in a side against a full-strength Chelsea that featured a number of fringe players.

"Obviously, when you get somebody of the quality of Kyle Bartley coming in, that's a great thing as you can see," said McCoist.

"But it would be ridiculous of me not to use the good contacts that I have and I will certainly use every contact that I have to bring in the best players available to the club.

"You can be sure of that."

Rangers owner Craig Whyte promised more new faces after the Glasgow side crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers against Malmo in midweek.

Asked if he was closer to bringing in new faces, McCoist said: "We are working very hard to get players in.

"I am as hopeful as the next man, but time will tell. "There is no point in me getting frustrated."

Nikica Jelavic had headed Rangers into the lead after only six minutes, but Sturridge scored twice before half time and Florent Malouda added a third after the break.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard also had a penalty saved by substitute goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

"It was great to get the young boys involved," said McCoist despite the defeat. "It was great to get Ross Perry, Thomas Bendiksen and wee John Fleck did fine.

"And Neil always gives me food for thought, because he is a top goalkeeper. "We feel we are blessed with two very good goalkeepers.

"You would have to say the youngsters have a very realistic chance, you just have to look at the injuries we had today.

"With Sasa Papac, Goian, Weir, Whittaker and Papac all out, that would indicate they have all got a chance of being involved.

"There are no guarantees, but now might be quite a good time if you are a talented young player at Murray Park."

Evidence of alleged criminality in the past business dealings of Rangers FC's new owner has been uncovered by a BBC Scotland investigation.

It found that Craig Whyte was banned from being a director for seven years.

The BBC heard allegations that Mr Whyte controlled a company despite his ban, an offence which could incur a two-year jail term. It was later wound up after misleading potential shareholders.

Mr Whyte denied all the claims "in the strongest possible terms".

The 40-year-old businessman from Motherwell owns an 85% stake in Rangers.
