Hi Guys!

Would like some updated info (seeing as laws & rules change from day to day) :o -

I'm buying a 2nd-hand bike from a farang in Chiang Mai.

I live around Bangkok and will go to CM to arrange transfer of the bike, but only want to use the bike in the CM area, so won't be moving the bike south again.

So far, so good (I think). :D

I have a Thai driving licence, copy of tabian barn (house book), copies of

passport main page, visa page (plus a 2-yr old copy of residence letter) -

- anything I need?

What does the farang seller need?

What does a transfer cost (if anything) and is there any buyers/sellers tax involved or any other charges ?

Where exactly is the transfer office in CM?

Cheers for any quick advice :D

My local office only accepts the residence letter if it was issued within 14 days. License is not checked or needed.

You need to get the two transfer forms signed (one of they physically come with you), the sellers passport copy, thier visa page (if they have one, never had a problem with a seller not having a proper visa visa) and thier TM6 entry card and current duration of stay stamp.

Buyer needs the same plus the residence letter, also I hear that there is some tightening over having a non imm visa to register a vehicle, different offices do it differently but it has been an issue for some.

Cant think of anything else ??

Hi!

Yeah, I reckoned that there might be some bother with the Resident's Letter. However, it seems that different offices have different procedures. If it comes to the crunch and they refuse the transfer due to the "old" Resident's Letter, then I'll get the transfer done to the gf (Thai) - it ain't no big deal. :o

Thanks for your input! :D

Cheers

I actually find it harder to get it in my GF's name.. They need her tabien and as its out of the region (shes not registered in this province) then you need someone with a local tabien to do something or other.. I am not exactly sure as I leave her bike registrations to her but I know it got more complex than doing them myself, think she had to pay someone for the privilege of a local tabien.
