I am going (well, we are going if she ever gets that VV interview ) to Birmingham from BKK around the same time as you. There still seem to be tickets available going via places like Frankfurt or Munich (Lufthansa or Thai), or Zurich (Swiss). You could also try SAS or Thai via Copenhagen, or KLM via Amsterdam. I suspect the direct flights to Heathrow are probably full-ish, as are Emirates via Dubai (they're always full though). Sorry, no idea about prices. Bahrain is the better transplane stop as the facilaties are light years better and the airport is clean. It is not "dry". Need to book early as they fill up very quickly, I went in September this year and got a ticket via a travel agent for 27,600 baht, probably more expensive now due to fuel surcharges, Christmas is also high season.
