So much for German thoroughness: How can it be that 15 people die, and always immediately after the home visit of a specific doctor, and nobody notices it? It doesn’t matter how good his intentions were; he actively killed 15 people, and that is murder and must be punished accordingly. You talk about assisted dying, but there are requirements for that, and they are very strict for a good reason. The legal situation in Germany looks like this: • Assisted suicide: Assisting in self-killing is exempt from punishment. This means that people who wish to die are allowed to have lethal medication handed to them by a doctor or a support organization, but they must take it themselves. • Passive assisted dying: Ending or not initiating life-prolonging measures is permissible if it corresponds to the stated will of the patient. • Active euthanasia (prohibited): Active killing on request, where someone else (e.g., a doctor) directly administers a lethal substance to the patient, remains legally prohibited in Germany. And if I understood correctly, this doctor administered the lethal cocktail to his patients without their knowledge. Medical law is really very strict there. In fact, even a simple blood draw or a tooth filling can theoretically meet the criteria for bodily harm because you are intervening in a person's physical integrity. It is only not considered bodily harm, but rather a legal medical procedure, if this action is performed for the purpose of treating a patient and according to the current state of medical science. To share from my own experience, even if the patient explicitly wishes it and absolves the dentist of all liability in writing, a dentist is never allowed to pull a healthy tooth just because the patient claims they hear the radio through it at night. I asked the patient if it wouldn’t make more sense to try and simply change the station. After that, I never saw him again.
