Hi I am starting at a new school on Monday teaching Mathyom 1,3 and 6 and wondered what games or activities people think would be good. Most of my experience is with Prathom students.

The thing I have noticed in the past is that teaching Prathom students whose grasp of English is poor is no problem because you can sing songs, play simple vocab games etc. However when you teach Mathyom students everyone expects that they should be at a more advanced level, the books and what the Thai teachers teach them certainly suggests so.

In reality however I find that their English is usually no better than the younger kids yet if you try to play silly games with them they don't want to know.

What games, activities and time fillers do you use with your high school kids?

I Am teaching m1,3,5 as well, very rewarding.

M1 love "heads up-7 up) most should know this game.

As for the older students.... They do not like the games at all it seems, they are more intrested in what i am talking about and doing their best to follow along. Congrads to the upgrade i am sure you will love it.

I've been quite surprised actually, the students seem not only quite capable but also generally interested in learning. Maybe I have just been unlucky in the past but all my previous experience with Mathyom students has been painfull.

I don't think I'm aware of the game your talking about though. Please explain.

I think a great game (and keeping with current Thai culture) would be

passing out fake guns / Knives / Plastic bags etc and play "Kill The FALANG"

The kids can chase the farang teacher around shouting obscenities in English

(Gradable of course) shooting / stabbing well you get the idea..

Other games too,

Ripoff the Falang (All time favorite)

Falang go Home (Big Hit among older students)

Name that Falang Suicide (New ideas on mudering falangs and calling it suicide)

^ Semi-funny joke!

But please keep your cynicism to other parts of the board (sorry to pass the buck), where it might have a little more relevance! Or at the very least contribue sensibly with a couple of serious posts before you start cracking funnies (or not).

How's the Ultimate Fighting stuff going mate?
