Why don't you buy a wifi hotspot detector?
<br />I used to have one of these myself, more of a novelty than any practical value.<br /><br /> <img src="style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <b>YES</b> you can detect where there is at least one wifi network.<br /><br /> <img src="style_emoticons/default/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> <b>BUT</b> many networks are secure, or password protected so you cannot connect.<br /><br />Better to use the Stickman <i><b>"Free wifi hotspots in Thailand"</b></i> guide on his stickmanbangkok website, as recommended by earlier posters.<br /><br />And if you find any new locations or ones that are not working, let him know so that he can update his site.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

Errrrrrrrrrr why bother? All WiFi capable phones will scan the area in any event. Along with 99% of all newish lappies.

Does anyone know of any Wi-Fi hotspots along Jomtien beach road that could be accessed from the beach? I don't mind taking the kids to the beach, but I can only take so much of it myself; I would like to be able to do some browsing while putting down a few brews.

Mama Wifi is available along most of Jomtien beach, also named Jomtien WiFi etc...but you need a pin number obtainable from most of the hotel front desks..bit costly & not always working though, but the signal is available on the actual beach. Salotto Coffee under Casa Apartments Jomtien beachfront has a great WiFi 2mB free signal, just have to buy a coffee/beer etc, and they give you the pw. Should be a few others along the beach road but the signal will hardly reach the other side on the actual sand.

My iPhone gives me a list of all the wifi connections available for free!

It also gives you a data connection making the issue more or less irrelevant. Although of course wifi is faster in most cases. If wifi is there great, if not you have Edge.
