Every tourist nation is getting excited about Russians.

The Bulgarians, The Yanks, Londoners, Cape Verde'ites, Portugese, Croatia, The Moroccans, The Egyptians. Dubia folk and most obviously The Spanish who have really seen <deleted> all money compared to Scandanavians/ Brits/ Germans etc...,

Now for a country that is still relatively poor ive only brought up the obvious property hotspots who are all desperate for the rubble.

One thing you should know about the Slavs is that they are similar to Thais in that theyd quite happily drive the fanciest car or have the poshest holiday but behind this is bugger all cash.

Now if anyone is hoping that the Russians are going to change their life you ought to get a grip, as for them to have cash they need British/Germans/Americans to be buying crappy products made in Asia and for our economies to be flying. (this maybe different in 10 years but for now it is correct.)

And yes the seperatist clubs/bars in Pattaya shows how warm and friendly these people from one of the most ultra nationalist countries on the planet really are.

Everday at Utapo Airport (about 30 minutes east of Pattaya) large Russian private jets land and unload 40 or so Russians who are whisked away in beautiful black Toyotas to Pattaya. What they do there is left to your imagination but they return with boxes and boxes of goodies (electronics, gizmos. clothing, etc). What up with this? Man, suddenly there are a lot of rich Russians! Also there's been an alarming influx of Russian prostitutes working in Pattaya because they attract Thai men. Red Dawn! :o

OIL Russia has a lot of it and the price is sky high which means that the russia elite (mafia) has money to burn!

I spent the last 15 minutes cleaning up this topic, removing posts that violated such forum rules as referencing prostitution, flaming, insulting, baiting, foreign language, etc. Further violations will result in formal warnings. We can discuss this within the forum rules. Thank you.

LOL!

A tourist in Moscow pays some of the highest prices in the world. So Pattaya would seem like a dreamland, a sex playground.

Well thank YOU for first bringing sex into this topic for no reason!

(As you may not know, most Russian tourists are families or couples. If anything they improve the image of Pattaya, but I guess that's lost on many here.)

Sullen and miserable lot, most of them look like they just come from a bloody funeral. I've seen the same in Turkey - just not an overall happy/go lucky sort of people.

They have a leader with guts, who wont be influenced by the elite. Their economy is alive and booming, while the US economy is being destroyed, and Europe is being forced into a one-party dictatorship. Thats what wrong with the Russians, they are better than you..

HAHA Ecomomy booming, from mafia and the export of cheap soulless ..well you know what (silly forum rules prevent me from spelling it out) .Anyway, they only got the right to enter into the kingdom as other westerners just a year ago.

Understandably so given what they endured over the last century.

Better than us? Right.

Russians sit on huge stockpiles of natrual resources, and this wealth is finally getting spread around beyond the New Russians. However, many people are still left out in the cold. Doctors, lawyers, scientists, teachers--none of them share in the wealth the nation is now earning.

I know a skilled cardiologist who has to spend time as a businessman (importing foodstuffs) to pay for this practice as he can't make it soley as a physician.

And if you are a businessman, you can be quite successful. WHich is good, because they need the money to fuel the required brand-name consumreism you have to have in order to be deemed a success.

A large number if the early Russian visitors were criminals or worked for criminals (from any of the large number of mafias which exist in Russia). Pattaya was a place to launder their ill-gotten gains. Then, the destination took on alife of its own, and the general tourist is starting to come. It is now a badge of prestige to show your friends back in Moscow your nice new condo in Pattaya or Jomtien.

And, for-the-record, I am not a Russia hater. I have been involved with Russia for 15 years now, and while there are enough things about the country to make you pull out your hair, there are also some great aspects about the people and the land.

But to say they are "better" than anyone else, well, that is just ludicrous.

okay, britmaverick, i admit i' haven't seen many russians where i live, none in fact (smallville, issan) but i can't help but think you're itching for a fight with nihilnisibene (sic?) and it could be said this person is up for a fight as well. i realy think you're generalizing the russian race a bit here.

okay, let me generalize a bit here myself. i lived in lithuania for 3 years with a great gal, she was born in the ukraine and the family moved to lithuania when she was a kid. they spoke russian, all her friends spoke russian and i can say with confidence that although not born in russia, they had the same characteristcs as russians. (expect to hear the wrath of lithuanians, russians, ukrainians)

anyhow, upon meeting her friends for the first time, especially her or her family's male friends or relatives, i felt like an outsider for an hour or 3, but after a few beers/vodkas and they realized i wasn't a complete a/hole and was okay with my girlfriend and her family, i swear, they would've given me the shirt off my back if i'd have asked.

we lived in an apartment she owned, it was funny, she didn't know her neighbors, was a bit leery of them, i don't know why, but friends were friends bigtime, and family was number one. once you were in you had it made, her mother lydia would have force fed me if she could have caught me, according to her i must have been always hungry, and the food was so good.

i guess the point i would like to make is not paint all russians with the same brush. i know i haven't seen the bad side of them, but there's bad sides to every countries citizens, british,canadian,russian,thai........i just think this forum tends to generalize too much, i catch myself doing it too....

Don't really have a grasp on reality, do you? Not to mention a clue as to the geo-political nature of things. How old are you? :o

What's YOUR view of the geo-political nature of things? One party dictatorship?? I don't get that one. USA economy for sure is $hit. Politico's there have had no imagination for 40 years. They still think it's 1950 and the're on top of the world.

Just a beginner Prakamong, only 24 years old. So pse explain the US elections. Is Obama the puppet of Soros, Brzysinski, or AIPAC??

Let me guess.. You were born in a cellar in Austria and just got out?

I think I remember seeing something on BBC world a couple of weeks ago about the Japanese on a particular island of their's weren't at all happy about the 'separatist' Russians too? They were very upset that the new Russian tourists had taken over a large part of their island and pretty much made it their own. Their own bars, with lots of vodka, Rusian music and NO Japanese allowed.

Turnpike - I have a few russian mates, one is a well known geneticist - she's direct opposite. (playful/funny) I'm making an observation, and I know full well all are not like this. However you sort of proved my point, took a few hrs to get to know you before you broke through the harden shell. Why have the shell at all is my point?

WRONG, Jefferson. It was brought up in the Opening Post. So it was not for no reason that I mentioned it. Actually, the family appeal of Pattaya is lost on many ThaiVisa posters, from the OP, and from all the posts that had to be deleted. Carry on.

Yep, you're absolutley right. We have the worst President in American history. Our country's economy is in the shitter. Our image around the world is ruined and you're right again about no politicos without imagination since JFK. But the fact is, we are still on the top of the world. And I'm not talking about military might - look around you - what do you see? American culture and influence everywhere! Not only Starbuckks. KFC, MacDonald's, etc... jesus, people in foreign countries are paying through the nose for a second hand pair of levis, full of holes!. My god, don't you grasp it? It is soooooo obvious. American remains on top because of things you may underestimate: American music (MTV, hip hop, etc) American movies, fashion. Communist China is going crazy over American basketball. The Japanese are nuts over Orama, Singapore has built a huge and hugely polular Disney World. CocaCola is the most recognized brand name in the entire world. Christ, it's about nuclear submarines and politicians anymore. It's much more subtle and the nuance needs to be detected carefully. I'm not hoisting the American flag here - believe me, I'm ashamed of my country but any sensible person cannot deny that America will is a force that cannot be denied. Like it or not......those are the facts. As far as the "one party dictatorship - I don't get that one either. That was in someone other post, not mine.
