Private Tuition

What’s the going rate for a one hour lesson with a native English speaker in the privacy of your own home? I understand if you were to go to one of the many language schools you’d be paying at least 500 baht per hour and be in a class of…...well more than one on one.

What’s a fair price?

DONT PANIC?

There is a LINK there is a POST somewhere. I have it in My Favourites. But can I locate it ?

FOUND IT!

the price is whatever the customer is willing to pay.

In Chiang Mai if the student found you through a personal recommendation, you might get away with 350-400 baht. If you solicit for students, expect to earn less.

In Bangkok you can earn significatly more.

I charge between 700 and 1200 bt/hr. The only people still at 700 bt/hr are ones who I have been working with for a couple of years.

My typical starting rate is 800 bt/hr if it is very close to a BTS station.

1000 bt/hr if it involves significant travel.

1200 bt/hr if there are more than one student.

I tutor physics and mathematics (through calculus).

Thanks PeaceBlondie, for your help .I did believe, at the time, I was doing 'Don't Panic' a favour.

:o

TEFLMike, no problem

I agree with Loaded that in some places like Chiang Mai, a good tutor might charge only 350 per hour. But they should try to get more if they are good, have the references and resume, have a specialty subject to teach, find a niche of high paying customers, etc. Last year, a qualified teacher in an international school was only charging 350 per hour for two-hour blocks with primary age students.
