Hello all.

Can you please advise as I don't seem to be able connect my dvd player to my TV.

I have recently purchased a dvd player and I dont seem to get it to work properly.

I have a antenna/ariel to my freeviev/decoder box-then scart to the dvd player-and then scart to tv.

When I have the dvd turned off I get a freeview signal to the tv via the dvd player BUT when the dvd player is turned on all I seem to get is 'snow'. I have tried swapping cables and dont seen to be able to fathom it out.

I was wondering if I need an antenna cable from the freeview box to dvd player but I am assuming that the scart lead should do this.

I am at a complete loss

Any ideas???

Many thanks..... slippery

If you're getting 'snow' then you're seeing an open antenna (on the TV).

Manually select the TV input as 'scart' (read the TV handbook). The reason it works with Freeview is that most boxes correctly implement the scart electronic switching, evidently your DVD played does not :o

If the TV has two scart sockets it's probably better to plug Freeview into one and the DVD into the other.

Scart had the potential to do some very clever things and if they'd chosen a different connector (that doesn't fall out all the time) it could have become a global standard. But the standard was never fully defined and now suffers from the same issues as RS-232 in being a 'somewhat standard' standard :D

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I can do as you say by using seperate scarts. But as the dvd player is recordable (should have mentioned this earlier) I want freeview through the dvd player so that I can record any programmes.

Thanks

Ah, I wondered why a DVD player had 2 scart sockets :o

You should still be able to manually set the TV to scart input so you can see the DVD signal :D
