Hi everyone,

It's time for me to call on your knowledge.

I'm having a few problems accessing the internet. While browsing and emailing works perfectly, most other programs simply cannot find an internet connection and simply tell me that I am offline or there is a DNS error. I'm at my wits end on how to solve it. I really need some of the programs for work.

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3 on a True ADSL connection. I'm connected to my router over Wifi using a static IP address.

Any help would be appreciated.

ps. I've added the programs to my Firewall exceptions

Most programs that require registration over the internet simply cannot be registered because of this problem.

Maybe your computer is infected with some Spy/Trojan/Virus or even Rootkit!

Some of that infections disable the connection to the Network, which includes the Internet as well, totally and some just restrict the connection.

Maybe it's time to double and triple check your computer with the different security programs.

I think you didn't have set your computer to a limited Internet access or install parental control on your computer?!

Cheers.

Thanks for the replies guys. There is no spyware or malware on the pc. It's a fresh install of XP Pro with SP3 streamlined into it. I did run Adaware just incase. I have added the programs exception to the Firewall but still no luck.

I have full Admin priveldges, so there shouldn't be and issues with access rights.

Had you enabled Java Scripts and done the other adjustments need to get full access, incl. the installation of the different Flash drivers?

And what's about your Modem/Router? Setup correctly?

Cheers.

I've installed a few programs, mostly paid for programs and all my hardware is set up correctly. Everything else is enabled, it's a development machine, so I've installed only prgrams I need.

Router is set up correctly, I've actually just checked it and rebooted it. I even tried swtching back to a DHCP assigned address but still no luck.

So than it's very difficult to tell something without an direct access to that computer.

Question: have you an other computer available on the same connection? And if, work that computer correctly?

Cheers.

I have just finished setting up Windows, in Virtual PC on my old iBook, and it works great. So it's not a network issue, I've also installed exactly the same programs as on my main machine. I definitely think it's a hardware/software conflict somewhere.

Oops, than isn't much left!

Could you try to uninstall SP3 please?! It's possible that the problem came from there. I get some info about INet problems after installing SP3 and tomorrow afternoon I will have that problem in an Customer computer in Pattaya. He just called me an half an hour ago. After he installed SP3 he wasn't able to connect to the Internet again.

Cheers.

Make sure IPv6 is not installed.

To Uninstall IPv6 Using the Network Connections Folder

  1. Click Start.
  2. Either click Control Panel and then double-click Network Connections, or point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
  3. Right-click any local area connection, and then click Properties.
  4. Click Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 in the list of installed components, and then click Uninstall.
  5. Restart the computer.
