What Is This Snake Our Cat Has?

Recommended Posts

Can some on id this snake please? I can't get her to drop it, but it is not trying to bite her either.

Ok I got the snake away, the cat had let one of her kittens have it. It was about 1 metre in length, the head relatively broad. The black markings looked like O or zeroes.

  • 1 month later...

Just had one in the garden:

I first saw it on the patio after I went to investigate a lot of bird noise:

A bird was hovering over the snake and squawking a lot. It flew off when I got there and then the snake slithered off into the grass:

...and finally shot up a tree. The bird then flew around inside the tree squawking some more - probably trying to get it to go away.

My Ex-cat had a habit to bring in snakes and play with them.

Mostly harmless ones but also Cobras.

One day she was found dead outside, one snake to much.

The last one she brought in was this little cutie.

I bought one of these from JJ market a year or so ago out of pity as it looked like it was not being looked after. We nursed it back to full health in a month or so, by which time it was extremely aggressive. We let it go in the woods having managed to avoid being bitten. They have mild poison and are rear fanged, so not really dangerous.

Well that's a banded krait and it's highly venomous.

I found my book after quite a search. It appears to be a Golden Tree Snake.

correct

one of the easiest to id, and very common (and harmless)

Sorry, I was referring to the snake in the original post, the Golden Tree Snake, not the highly dangerous one in the other picture.
