I have a gf that is from the Philippines. I live in Thailand (Bangkok) on a non immigrant B visa. Is the only option for her staying here long term is to study Thai at Walen Language School and apply for a Ed visa through them? She has been here nearly 70 days and we have been flying back/forth to Manila frequently. What would be the best option? Ideally she would prefer to study something else in Bkk other than Thai language. :o

She doesn't have to study Thai language, she can study what ever she wants. The only problem is that most studies will be in Thai language.

The educational institution must be recognized by the government.

I was told that it MUST be Thai language. Can she start a university degree at a university that offers an international program? (that teaches in English)

Where is there a list in English of approved ed. institutions and courses offered in English?

Thank u.

For the rules regarding your GF visa look at:

http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/rtp606EN.pdf

page 5, point 7.7. and 7.8. So yes, she can start an university degree.

There are too many educational institutions to mention, and I don't know of a list. Just use google and yahoo. In yahoo: university thailand would give you a small list. Also you can have a look at:

This is not a long term option, just an option as long as the course lasts.

If you're over retirement age you could get a retirement visa, then she can stay with you...but you'd have to be married.
