LPG price increases ahead for motorists here in Pattaya.

With the price of petrol almost doubling in the last year, many motorists have converted their vehicles to use Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). Last year, 3 Million Tons of LPG were consumed by modified vehicles. Already this year, 3.5 Million Tons has been used. The price of a liter of LPG has been around 8 or 9 Baht for a long time, however the price has recently increased by 3 Baht to around 12 Baht per liter and this price is expected to reach 16 Baht per liter in the near future. There are some suppliers who are hoarding LPG before the prices increase again. This practice has been deemed illegal by the Internal Trade Department in Bangkok and if caught, prison terms of up to seven years and/or a fine of up to 140,000 Baht can be imposed. Panic buying of LPG has begun and shortages have been reported around the Kingdom. In Bangkok many Taxi’s have been forced to come off the road. Supplies are now running low here in Pattaya and many stations are limiting each customer to a maximum purchase of 300 Baht.
