Need Documents Translated

Featured Replies

My wife is here in America on a K-1 fiancee visa. We are filling out the I-485 for permanent residence and they want a copy of her birth certificate (and it needs to be translated and certified). We had it translated in Thailand (and certified), but I'm afraid they will want an American company to do it. An American company wants $200 to translate a single page. Should I have it translated in America or is the translation I had done in Thailand good enough?

Hey

If you have an account at a Thai Bank with a branch in the USA and you are near that branch, get them to do the translation an Notarise the document. That would meet the requirements of USCIS.

Regards

Peter

We just filed I-485 for my wife's K-3 visa. The BC translation certified in Thailand is acceptable. No need to have it translated by an American company. No need for it to be notarized, either (the certification stamp simply certifies the translator is fluent in both languages and that the translation is accurate).
