Bonsai Tree

Featured Replies

I was given a "Thai" bonsai tree, i dont think its a 'real' bonsai but it does look nice and i would like to find out how to take care of it properly (i.e. how much water to give, what type of environment to keep it in etc)

I've had a look around to try and identify what type of plant it is the closest thing i've found to my tree is "Feroniella lucida, Swingle" - i'm normally hopeless when it comes to growing stuff, and i dont want to kill it off within a few weeks :o

I've attached a couple of photos of the leaves and tree, maybe someone can help me confirm the type or tell me what type it is if i am wrong :D

Are the leaves thin or kind of thick and fleshy? Are you keeping the plant indoors or out? Don't overwater (ie don't let it sit in water, don't water every day unless it is outside and in the hot sun all day).

The common name for that plant is "Japanese Boxwood" or latin, Buxus microphylla. It is widely used as a bonsai. It requires alot of light and regular feeding. Do a web search on either name, there is much info out there on this plant.

Good luck,
