Hi;

Most of the books I look at seem to suggest คน (khon) is the classifier for ordinary people, and รูป (ruup) is the classifier for Monks. Can anyone tell me what the classifier is for other religious leaders (nuns, priests, rabbis, imans, ministers, etc)?

Intuitively I'm guessing that the classifier for Monks would be extended to all religious leaders, or is it a term that only applies to Monks, with others using khon? Or is it a term that applies to male religious leaders (monks, priests, etc) with females (eg nuns) using khon?

Thanks.

This is what I found in a dictionary:

ชี (nun) รูป

บาทหลวง (priest) องค์

พระ (monk) รูป

I am not sure when to use องค์ and when to use รูป. Depending on the dictionary I find different answers.

For formal classifiers according to RID,

priests, rabbis, ministers, monks, the classifier is รูป .

nuns and imams, the classifier is คน . But you can use ท่าน in case you want it to be respectful.
