I think I read something on this topic and have searched but to no avail.

Where at Bangkok Airport do I make this declaration, immigration or at customs or somewhere else?

Thanks

Immigration is in charge to check your p/port, traveldocuments and to decide how long you may stay in Thailand.

After that go to the customs point, down the escalator. Since you have something to declare, i.e. money, go to the red lane and verbally declare your money.

Customs might want to see it and bring you to a separate room, where you will be issued a form showing the amount you brought in.

This form as well can be used when leaving the country. Must be next trip.

you rather have to insist upon getting this form. In my case I really had to "ask" them seriously to give me their receipt. The officer said it would not be necessary but I figured that he just was not keen to sign it.

It is only necessary to declare foreign currency if the value exceeds US$10,000, and you want to be able to take the money out again.
