Neighbors mentioned noticing a burning smell coming from the house but thought nothing of it at the time, ... and would often shout and scream while alone inside the house.

And that's how much Thai neighbours think of Farangs.

Often shouting and screaming while alone? That's the house in any neighborhood anywhere in the world that you tell the kids to stay away from.

:o

I guess that's why it took so long to rule out suicide. Sounds like it's whacked out of kilter.

Khun Ponjan killed Mr. Jochems following an argument over a mobile phone

That's the price of his life, that's how cheap it is these days.

What a bloody awful country Thailand is turning into.

Seems some thais will kill for almost no reason, and they dont seem to worry about the consequences, this also seems to apply to their driving,.however some people maybe like this poor chap dont seem to have the ability to smell trouble,.very sad,.R.I.P

Hmmmmmmmm, The farang had 2 houses, a car, money (I presume) and a long line of girls visiting on a regular basis for the past three years.

Something seems fishy that his demise was a result of a tiny mobile phone. I doubt that the real reason for the killing was due to a mobile phone.

They sell used mobile phones at the mall for 500 baht nowadays. Have you ever seen the cheap crappy phones that all these gals have with them when they walk around the town? If we calculate his life at 500 baht, considering he owned 2 houses and a car, then it seems as if there is something missing from this scenario.

What do you think? Was he murdered over a cheap 500 baht used mobile phone?

Were the killers capable of lodging a sword deep into his neck and then burning down the house over 500 baht? Usually, this type of vicious attack would require much more than not returning a cheap ass phone.

No matter what the motivation was, murder is never justified. However, the death penalty would be practical and useful in these cases.

**** UPDATE ****

TWO THAI WOMEN COLLABORATED IN SLAYING, ROBBING AND INCINERATING DUTCH MAN IN PATTAYA

In the ongoing investigation of the brutal slaying and burning of Mr. Martinus Johannes Grardus Antonius Jochems, (63), a Dutch citizen, who, on July 7, 2008, was found dead from a vicious stab wound to the neck and then burnt, Pattaya police have now implicated two Thai women as being the perpetrators of the crime.

In the latest report, on July 9, at 3pm, Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, apparently recalled Miss Ratana Inthirat (29), a staff member of Kansas City restaurant, located in Soi Nongket Yai, Nong-pla-lai, Banglamung, for further questioning. She had earlier been questioned as a close friend of Mr. Jochems, but, initially, police found nothing suspicious in her testimony and had released her, accordingly. However, new evidence and witness' statements threw doubt upon her veracity, so police recalled Miss Ratana for a more thorough investigation. In an investigation lasting about 2 hours, Miss Ratana apparently finally confessed in tears that she and her friend, Miss Janjira Korbkaew, (23), from Chantaburi, had jointly killed Mr. Jochems.

Apparently, in the middle of the night of July 3, Miss Ratana had taken Miss Janjira by motorbike to go and sleep with Mr. Jochems. Later the next morning, Miss Ratana returned to the house to pick up Miss Janjira and take her back home, but Mr. Jochems was apparently unwilling to let Miss Jajira go and had taken Miss Janjira's mobile phone and her motorbike key to prevent she and her friend from going home. Miss Ratana tried to affect a compromise, but failed. Then, Mr.Jochems allegedly started to attack both she and Miss Janjira. Miss Ratana then went out to report the matter at the police box at Nong-pla-lai, but police were apparently unwilling to help as they said it was a family matter and the two women would have to deal with the problem themselves.

Failing to enlist the aid of the police, Miss Jajira became angry that she could not get her mobile phone back, and then grabbed an iron bar, which was in the house and began to hit Mr. Jochems repeatedly, while he was washing his face in the bathroom. Both she and Mr. Jochems then began fighting, which led to Miss Ratana trying to help by grabbing a mop and hitting Mr.Jochems until he collapsed. After that Miss Janjira took a conveniently placed knife and stabbed Mr. Jochems in the neck, killing him in front of her friend. At this stage, they both became afraid of the consequences of their actions and decided to buy some petrol to pour over Mr. Jochems's body and the floor, lighting a fire to disguise the murder. Before making their escape, Miss Janjira took a diamond ring and a gold, diamond-studded watch worth Bt1 million.

After that, they shared the stolen items between them, Miss Janjira taking the diamond ring and Miss Ratana the watch, which she buried at the foot of a coconut tree at her residence. She apparently thought that nobody would find out about their crime and just went to work as normal. Miss Janjira, however, fled to stay with a friend at Gang-hang-maew sub-district.

Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, said that, after police had investigated Miss Ratana, a police team was immediately sent to search for Miss Janjira at Gang-hang-maew sub-district, but Miss Janjira had already fled after having being alerted a short while earlier

Questioning a friend of Miss Janjira, police were informed that Miss Janjira had implied that Miss Ratana was the one who had actually killed Mr.Jochems and she herself was not involved, only being present at the incident. That was the reason why she had run away to stay with her friend. Apparently, both Miss Ratana and Miss Janjira's stories were different. Initially, Miss Ratana was charged with joint intent to kill another, intentionally. Police are currently applying for an arrest warrant for Miss Janjira, who they hope to apprehend as soon as possible.

If you steal a 500 Baht mobile phone from someone whose net worth is around 5,000 Baht if that... then I'd say it's definitely possible.

How would you react to someone (possibly armed) attemping to steal a 5,000,000 Baht car from your 50 million Baht property (say you forgot your passcard to the main gate at the massage parlour and had to park out front for the night).

RIP and my sincere condolences to his family.

So so sad that life is SO cheap in this country.... How on earth could you almost sever someone's head...? Nasty, nasty, nasty.

The ferocity of this attack astounds me :o Nobody deserves this. I hope they will be punished properly under the Thai Justice System.

Now, the real motivation has been revealed. The police stated in the second interview that these criminals stole a diamond ring and a million baht diamond and gold watch. It is likely that during the past three years of making home deliveries of ladies to this house, there was some internal scouting going on to search for any valuables that could be taken.

So, if your total net worth is less than 5,000 baht and you can steal a 1 million baht watch and diamond ring by severing an old man's head off with a conveinently placed sword, and then lighting the house on fire to seal the deal, then you can retire upcountry in ISSAN.

Case closed. I hope these criminals will receive their punishments in this life and that they will receive their true punishments in the next life when this old man comes back as a ghost to slice and dice and then have a bar-b-que in their honor.

RIP. This is horrible crime and I doubt that I will be able to sleep for some time with the knowledge of this crime and others.

Final dramatic twist in the Dutch Murder Case.

It appears that the recent murder case involving a Dutch resident of Pattaya has now been solved and we can report a fascinating twist in the story which came as a surprise to Police. On Thursday afternoon, Police Lieutenant General Tirayoot, the Region 2 Commander of Police led a press conference at Banglamung Police Station to announce that the original prime suspect Khun Ponjan aged 35 had been caught, however upon further investigations it was found that Khun Rattana, who was known to be at the scene when the murder took place, actually conducted the murder and set the house alight following the killing.

Khun Ponjan who recently changed her name to Khun Jangira turned herself in to Banglamung Police Station on Thursday Morning. A third woman, known only as “Noi” is now known to be fictitious. Khun Rattana has now confessed to stricking Mr. Jochems over the head with the metal pipe and stabbing him in the neck with the Sword. Following the murder, she also stole a wrist watch worth 2 Million Baht and a Diamond Ring worth 800,000 Baht from the house, which were recovered by Police, and she also started the fire inside the house following the murder.

The pair were taken to Mr. Jochems house on Thursday Afternoon for a reconstruction of the events leading up to the murder and their movements following the murder. Khun Ponjan and Khun Rattana are now facing a variety of charges relating to the murder and theft, however the more serious charges of murder have been brought against Khun Rattana. Both will appear in court early next week.
