True Crypt 6 Released

Featured Replies

On 4th July TrueCrypt 6.0 was released, though for too early adopters, 6.0a version was released yesterday 8th :o

However this version is designed to take advantage of multi-cores for processing and the ability to provide a hidden OS, in other words the possibility to encrypt the entire system drive.

A product with a number of users here and in case they've not been notified {or readers are interested} here's an heads-up.

Not sure if the hidden partition / "plausible deniability" technique is going to work too well for this.... Do we need to install a decoy OS now?

"No, I swear! All I have is this Win98 installation on a 500meg partition!"

I'll be happier if they find a way to have an encrypted partition not use 2 drive letters, though..

That's exactly what is suggested LINK

Think the real world benefit is the multi-core aware encryption.

PS On the I only use point.. this LINK is to a guy who's just finished college {so not an oldie} but still uses Windows 95.

don't forget this little app http://www.codeproject.com/KB/files/TCExplorer.aspx if you want to keep encrypted containers on a USB stick and be able to access them on any computer

I was semi-joking about the decoy OS but wow, they really take it seriously... Using one OS for everyday work, the other for 'sensitive' work... Makes sense though, you can't have a long-unused OS on your comp if you're goal is to convince someone it's your daily system.

i totally agree about the multi-core advantages, I was contemplating system wide encryption after version 5 but concerned about the performance hit. This lessens that worry a lot. Truecrypt has come a long way.

[unfortunately] i've built an app based on truecrypt so i cringe every time i see a new version released because it means i need to rebuild my app. :o
