I want to know if it's possible to negotiate for a Non-Immigrant VISA [no more tourist visa please as I need a Thai driving license] if I'm the co-owner of a business. I'm not interested in a WP as yet.

I'm not interested in a WP as yet. The requirements for the various types of non-immigrant visa are published here on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2489 Co-ownershipg of a company, ie owning shares of a Thai company, is not listed as a qualification for obtaining any type of non-immigrant visa. All visas are issued at the discretion of the consulate where you apply. If you do not meet the requirements for any specific type of non-immigrant visa the consulate may issue a non-immigrant visa type O (other) at its discretion. Therefore, the only way for you to find out is to ask the consulate where you plan to apply. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

July 12, 200817 yr Hi, ... for a Non-Immigrant VISA [no more tourist visa please as I need a Thai driving license]a small remark:No need of a Nom-Imm Visa for a driving license : Go to Pattaya for a DL with Tourist Visa

July 12, 200817 yr Would be kind enough to elaborate ? You will find several reports on Driving License in Pattaya on the ThaiVisa/Pattaya forum. The point is that for your DL you need a "Proof of Domicile" from Immigration and that to get this document the Immigration Office in Jomtien will not require a non-imm visa, but only ask for 200 baht... without any receipt... There are many examples on guys here obtaining their DL with a simple Tourist Visa or even with a Visa Exemption ! Most of time they use address of their hotel. Only in Pattaya...

There are many examples on guys here obtaining their DL with a simple Tourist Visa or even with a Visa Exemption ! Most of time they use address of their hotel. Only in Pattaya... Is there any advantage in having a Thai DL as opposed to ani international driver's license? I have used an international one for the last eight years or so and even felt that sometimes it held a small advantage. Most of those few times when I was pulled over the MIB seemed unfamuliar with the international one and let me go rather than admit his confusion.
July 14, 200817 yr Insurance coverage is likely to be more sure with a local license. Believe the international permits are limited in length of time that they are valid in a country you are living.
July 14, 200817 yr You might want to do a little research on the Thai drivers license issue. I believe that a WP is also required to obtain a Thai drivers license.
July 14, 200817 yr There is no requirement for a work permit. There is a proof of residence requirement that could be served by showing a work permit but it is not a requirement.
July 14, 200817 yr Most O/S DL are exceptable for a 3 month period. If you hold a Non Im B visa then you have to cross the border every 90 days anyway. So check if you countries DL is acceptable?
July 14, 200817 yr You don't need a WP to obtain a DL, and you can also obtain the proof of residence from your EMBASSY.
July 16, 200817 yr Is it possible at all to get a non-immigrant visa if I register a partnership with a Thai counterpart ? In which event, which category of visa ?I'm not referring to shareholder of a limited company; just a partnership to open a hair salon or whatever small business. Investing money over here into a 'small business' doesn't give you any right for such a visa or any visa at all. If you are just looking for a driver's license follow the other advises.
