July 11, 200817 yr Hi folks. Last time I was in the UK, I renewed my non-immigrant type B, so had a full 12 month visa when I returned to Thailand. A year has gone by, and I did my last visa run 2 days before the non-imm expired, giving me a total of just under 15 months in Thailand. I am going to need to get a new type B very soon, meaning I would have to go back to the UK at the end of August (or go somewhere else I can get a new one). I would much rather go back around Christmas. Now... Am I right in thinking that I can pop to the border and get a 30 day tourist visa, and repeat this 2 more times, giving me another 90 days in Thailand before I have to leave? Would I then have to spend 90 days out of Thailand? (I really don't want to have to do this). Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

July 12, 200817 yr 30 days is not a visa entry - it is visa exempt entry. So you might be better off getting a tourist visa for a 60 day entry and extending it 30 days. That will also keep your visa exempt entry possibilities alive if needed for some reason. As said there is no requirement to stay out of Thailand any time if you have a real visa.

I don't think I can get a 60 day tourist visa anywhere near Surin, and the Cambodian border is a convenient 45 minutes away, so a 30 day stamp makes good sense. I can definately get three of those in a row right? Before I have to leave?

Yeah, I admit I think I'm gonna be freezing my privates off, but I haven't been back home for Christmas for about 5 years now, and I know my folks would love to have me there for a change, so a little bit of cold weather won't hurt too much!
July 12, 200817 yr After the 90-day permission to stay from your last entry with your multiple-entry non-B visa expires you can enter on visa-exempt stays for a maximum of 90 days. On each visa-exempt entry you receive permission to stay for 30 days. From what you say it appears that your last 90-day stay based on you non-B visa will expire in August. Adding 90 days to that will bring you to November. Therefore, you will then have to go to a Thai consulate in the region for a single-entry tourist visa to carry you over until Christmas, when you will go to the UK for a new multiple-entry non-B visa. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
July 12, 200817 yr Author Yes. Looks like going to UK at the end of November. Nice and early for Christmas. Yep that's how I worked it out also, my final 90 days from my non-imm is up on September 2nd, so adding 90 days to that leaves me somewhere near the end of November. It's actually pretty perfect timing as I have to be in the UK for 5-6 weeks anyway to take care of some stuff, so I will be there for Christmas with my folks and new years eve with my friends, the first time I will have done either in a very long time, I am quite looking forward to it!

Remember 3 visa 30day stamps add up to 88 days as day 1 is counted from the stamp. So if your visa expires on the 30th and you do a visa run day 1 of the next visa is the 30th. I know this is splitting hairs but it is nice to know.
