Traffic policeman killed by drunk driver

BANGKOK: -- A traffic policeman was killed when his motorcycle was slammed into by a car driven by man returning from a birthday party early Saturday, police said.

The man, Pakorn Kasemwut, 23, was arrested for drunk driving causing death. The test found that the level of alcohol in his blood was higher than what permitted by the traffic law to allow driving.

The accident occurred at 2 am on the flyover at the Lard Prao Intersection.

Pakorn admitted that he was driving home after a birthday party of his friend Friday night and he did not see the motorcycle of Pol Sgt Maj Ek Pibulsawat, 40, and hit it.

I'm surprised he stopped. In Thai culture, the usual thing to do is flee the scene.

I am suprised that a traffic policeman was working at 2am - I have never seen one on the road after about 8pm.

He had probably been off duty, doesn't matter.

There's a pix in Dailey Xpress - the car was in no condition to drive away.

Another tragedy, one death, one life ruined and families torn apart for years due to a few minutes of bad judgment. Sad all round. But it happens everywhere, everyday.

Plus, were you able to tell what make car it was? Expensive?

I hope the policeman's family is taken care of. :o

My condolences to the policeman's family, friends and colleagues.

RIP - road safety and not drinking and driving should be mandatory subjects in schools here to ever get any change.

Wonder if he'll be let off with a 10'000 baht fine? :o

No mention if the Policeman on the motorbike had also been drinking though?
