Quite a few Thaivisa members that I used to find informative and interesting had been banned from Thaivisa

Yep, I can see how this could very well be true. Advice: be very bland and insipid, even while celebrating another balcony jump, and you'll be fine. Restrain the urge to laugh at ridiculous posts and have a bit o' fun. Quite a few members, including a mod or two, seem to take themselves VERY seriously. Others perhaps cry easily.

Me, I'm more used to freewheelin' unmoderated (mostly) Usenet forums.

Funny how different boards have their own characters, eh? (We can't mention other forums specifically, right?) A shavegeek forum I belong to, with lots of info on various topics, is totally polite and civilized with a very multinational membership. It practically needs no moderation. Another Thai-oriented forum is very much in-your-face with lots of amusing edge. For day-to-day living in Thailand, however, TV has the most info of any source I know, even if one often has to dig to find it.

Thanks to all those who have contributed, though it does seem to me that so many here are quick to label, but again this is not a medium attuned to subtleties it seems.

Though one does have to note that some who have been banned expend extraordinary amounts of effort to get back in.

Regards

I can see that most, if not all, subjects are not black and white, but there are still some topics that I can only see the black and white - this is because they are connected to my value system. For example I will never see any grey area in regards to state executions which I am strongly opposed to.

I will also sometimes find myself broiled in a strong debate with members if they say something which strikes me as grossly unfair or stupid - this happens a lot here. I am aware that my opinion is only my opinion, but sometimes it is easy to get wrapped up in the heat of the debate and easy to forget that I am arguing with a real person with feelings. I occasionally feel bad about things I have posted in haste.

But what about executing a single head of state who has been, is and will continue to be the cause behind many other people being executed... Wouldn't one execution/hit/take out be worth saving many others... :o

Perhaps people who can distinguish black from white are deliberately not the target audience of TV... :o

Besides if the forum was populated by subtle and intelligent people, who would they sell the advertising to...? :D

I don't want to go off topic, but I do not approve of state executions under any circumstances.

^ Well I have to admit I use an add-blocker so I've not seen any of the advertising on this site for months.

Me too, but make it years, not months. Can't beat Proxomitron for filtering. :o

A few posters here on TV handle their postings/conversations/discussions in a similar way as they probably would 'out there', but generally the disconnect between real life and the virtual world is growing apace. Black and white is much easier on the net, you ain't gonna be bashed in the face, no matter how rude and obnoxious you are. No need to consider other views, and moderate your own.

Fall into this trap and you inevitably devalue yourself. Most posts on this thread reflect that one-sided view, from both sides of the fence.

The fact that you gravitate toward a line of ignoring and simply ridiculing other views will not really affect you here on the board, but it will inevitably carry over into your day-to-day life and affect it negatively. You can try to divorce the two, but with time your attitude will spill over.

If you wish to learn and grow, the net offers a fantastic opportunity to do just that, but take care not to destroy your social skills, they are still sorely needed in life. There is a mass of technical learning available on the net, but the real value lies in the potential it holds in improving your insight into human behavior and ideas. These are potent tools to have in life. The only way to acquire them is to listen, evaluate, discuss. Learn to interact with as many diverse people as possible, from all walks of life. If you don't, you simply limit yourself.

Ain't that the truth, words of wisdom indeed. :o

There are a growing group of posters who limit their outpourings to simple one liners intimating monochromatic vision. Some of them have the intelligence and wit to, within that one liner, cut through the cr@p and get to the heart of the matter. The rest merely prove that their intellect does not have the power to proceed beyond the full stop. Both are welcome, sometimes we need to cut back the undergrowth to see the light and sometimes we just need a laugh.

you miss blizzard huh................l;ol!

not now your back blizz. you always did it for me. tv,s lose when they ban the likes of you. a couple of mods with there own agendas. oops ban on its way.

I think the average intelligence quotient of the board is dropping as persons of intelligence and wit find themselves banned with what appears to be increasing regularity. Banality and insipidnous seems to be the order of the day. Hopefully this will be only a short chapter in the life of Thai Visa.

Well, so many of our posters are uneducated. Lots of know-it-all working-class Brits, once or presently brickies, plasterers, hod carriers & whatnot mainly concerned about beer, birds, bashing & finding Brit delicacies in Thailand such as proper pork scratchings and sliced pickled beetroot. They seem perpetually stuck in a Monty Python movie of their own imagining.

i resemble that remark.

I sent a PM today to a regular poster who expressed polite disgust at some of the posts he sees. I suggested he judge some threads on their title or opening post, and ignore them. You may ignore certain posters, literally. Please do not leave TVisa to the lowest common denominator.

right on pb.

^ How about 7 or 8 times in a 24 hour period, or once a day over a few days?

Hence my description, not including the energy expended in banning, and deleting the posts and responses thereto.

^ In case anyone wonders, the above response was to the thus described repetitive poster. To endeavour to reduce this issue {I see no censorship question here, the person broke the rules and the position in such a situation is crystal clear*} it would appear that the policy is to remove the posts as well, as well as banning the individual {again... & again ... }

*Though I guess that does become a black or white issue.
