What If?

In a month time my multiple entry visa non imm type O will run out I deceided to go to Penang and apply for a new one. Can the Thai immigration refuse me a second one? If yes, do I need to travel back to

Australia to apply for a new one or are they other ways of optaining a new one? I am 60 years old

and I am married to a Thai lady for 5 years ( have Australian wedding certificate ) I also have prove

of residence over here. What documents do I need in Penang and what is the cost for a new multiple

O visa. Are bank statements rquired for this type of visa? At this stage I just asking for another 12 months of the same visa till I have made up my mind to stay here for good.

Many Thanks

in advance

I would try KL rather than Penang, although being over 50 should help you. You need the marriage certificate/copy, copy of wife ID card and home register. They should be signed and dated by wife. Also good to have a short request for visa to be issued (helps prove relationship ongoing). They may also want to see a bank passbook with your name on it. Not sure on price.

If you have a monthly family income of 40,000 baht you could just as well apply for an extention of stay based on your marriage with immigration in Thailand. Might be easier and if you decide not to stay in thailand for ever you can always leave just the same.

I guess that request for visa to be issued to be send to the embassy before I travel

No. Just take a note from your wife with you in which she asks for a visa for you.

My wife will be traveling with me as usual so I guess it might help if we go together to apply

And many thanks to all of you guys for your excellent advice.

fred2007, I assume you don't qualify for a retirement extension? (To do that you need B65,000/month income, or B800,000 savings, or a combination of the two.) Retirement extensions are obtained in Thailand (no need to travel to Penang or KL), and are quick/easy to obtain at any Immigrations office.

No, it is my first year in Thailand and I am just trying to get a new or extend my 12 month O visa

The retirement visa I have considered but in my situation I can not show the amount of money needed

to do that. Even so I have invested a lot since I came here, I still have no prove that I make this

amount of money required. I have a condo in BKK which is still in my wifes name till December and also

we have a home stay ( which I build ) but I could not prove that income.
