Fake Police Officer detains two women and demands money for their release.

An unusual case now from Soi Neun Pleub Wan in the East of Pattaya. Banglamung Police were called to a small room in the area following a complaint from a 16 year old boy who claimed that his two friends were being held against their will inside the room by a man who claimed he was a Police Officer and according to the complainant, the so-called Officer planted drugs inside the room upon entry and told the complainant that he wanted 20,000 Baht to clear the case.

He locked two 18 year old friends of the complainant inside the room and would only release them when the money was paid to him. The complainant wisely contacted the real Police who arrived at the location and rescued the two detainees; however the man who locked them up had disappeared.

Local Residents mentioned that the man who detained the two women is called “Pon” and is a well known man in the area and acted as if he was a Police Officer on many occasions. He is now being sought by Police and will face charges of impersonating a Police Officer and abduction when caught.

That a cop was trying to extort them, it should have been a dead give away he was a fake ! Maybe should add charges of "Extorting the public whilst not being a Police officer"

PATTAYA POLICE FOIL BOGUS POLICEMAN‘S SCAM

An individual masquerading as a Crime Suppression Department police lieutenant, going under the name of "Pol.Lt Phol", detained two teenagers in Pattaya, yesterday, July 16, 2008, and threatened to arrest them, accusing the couple of using Yah Bah (amphetamines). However, after taking them to a room in, he changed his tune and demanded Bt40, 000 in exchange for their freedom.

The teenage couple, Mr. Panuwat and Miss Kannika Glin-ge-sorn, (18), his girlfriend, had been riding a motorbike, at 00.10 am, down Soi Nern-plub-wan, and noticed a man in a black jacket, with "Police" embroidered on the back and wearing a black cap, was followed them. The man drew close and demanded they stop the motorbike, whereupon he accused them as being drug users. When they denied the accusation, he took the couple to a rented room in Soi Marb-yai-lea, Moo 5, Nongprue.

Once in the room, the supposed police officer apparently initially threatened to take them to Banglamung Police Station. However, he soon changed this threat to a deal whereby if the couple handed over Bt20, 000 each, they would be released. The boy agreed and then apparently phoned his mother to get her to transfer the required amount to the fraudster's bank account, after which he withdrew the money and gave it to "Pol.Lt Phol". Mr. Panuwat was then released, but Miss Kannika was unable to raise the Bt.20, 000 and was held by the fraudster.

However, Mr. Panuwat was highly suspicious of the supposed policeman and reported the matter to the local media. A news reporter subsequently took Mr. Panuwat to report the incident to Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, who immediately commanded Pol.Maj. Nit Withit-nanthakit and a police team to investigate the rented room off Soi Nern-plub-wan. Arriving at the location, police found two women in the room. Miss Kannika, the detained victim, was one and the other was Miss Jintana Bpo-yama (25), from Kamphangphet province, a girlfriend of Pol.Lt. Phol, and two months pregnant. Police examined in the room and found a black jacket, a black cap and some records of arrest, written in Pol.Lt.Phol's handwriting, which police kept as evidence.

Miss Jintana Bpo-yaha told police that she had been a girlfriend of Mr. Chet aka Pol.Lt.Phol for more than 3 months. She confessed to having used Yah Bah before she knew Mr. Chet. She told police that Mr. Chet was the one who planned the whole thing. Because she had been in drugs ring before, she was able to tell her boyfriend who was selling or consuming drugs, for Mr. Chet to claim he was a police officer to extort money.

On the same day, at 3pm, Pol.Col.Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, was notified that Mr.Chet, the bogus police lieutenant , was in hiding in room No. 7, at Full Love Inn, Moo 9, Nongprue. A police team accordingly rushed to the location and managed to arrest Mr. Chet with the evidence of a fake gun, 3 mobile phones, 1 Walkie Talkie, a 15-gram gold necklace, a fake volunteer police officer's I.D. card from Songkla province. Police then detained the suspect, known to them as Mr. Pichet Sae-leaw, (33) from Nakorn-srithamarat province.

Mr. Pichet confessed that he used to be a spy for the metropolitan police and had often seen the arresting process used by the police. He had duplicated the methods of arrest to use with the victims in Pattaya, with the assistance of Miss Jintana, his girlfriend, who pointed out the victims. So far he had extorted money from at least 10 victims, he confessed. Mostly, he would ask for between 10,000 - 20,000 Baht each. Mr. Pichet was subsequently charged with extorting money under threat and imprisoning victims
