Camel racing is the favourite sport in Qatar. Children as young as six are used as jockeys, brought in from the countries such as Thailand by dubious means and then starved to keep them lightweight. Consequently human rights groups have leant on Qatar authorities to stop this practice.

Camel racing bosses responded by paying millions to a Swiss firm to develop human-shaped robot jockeys. Testing has gone well and the androids are due to take over from the kids next year. Races earn big money... so, thanks to Aid

organisations dozens of child jockeys and their families, currently earning $400 a month and 10% of race winnings (up to $200,000 a pot) will suddenly be penniless once again.
