My wife just got her U.S. citizenship with a proof of U.S. citizenship. They took away her green card. We didn't have time to apply for a U.S. passport when we entered Thailand. She entered Thailand using her Thai passport. She is applying for a U.S. passport at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand. They said it will take 2 weeks..hopefully that is the case.

I have been reading the forums and the information is helpful.

Specific questions. When she gets to the airport, the airline will check and register her U.S. passport..and that is fine. When she gets to Thai immigration, she should show her Thai passport and if they ask her where she is going..she can show her U.S. passport?

Question 1

When she use her Thai passport to enter bangkok and leave bangkok, is she restricted to 30 days? I guess not because she is coming in as a thai national?

Question 2

When she re-enters the U.S., her new U.S. passport will be blank, wouldn't U.S. immigration want to ask where are the stamps entering and leaving Thailand? Then, would you she have to show the thai passport? Whatever the case, it feels like she will have to explain her situation. I just want to make sure we don't have problems with U.S. immigration. Just want to hear about other people's experiences.

I am the husband and am already back in the U.S. in Minneapolis, MN. She will be entering Mpls/St. Paul International airport.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Should not be any problems. At check-in staff will ask for passport and when they see Thai passport with no US visa they will want to see the US passport. At Immigration they will probably not even ask but if they do she can show the US passport as proof she can enter. At US a blank passport is quite normal and in any case it will be obvious passport just issued. She can show the Thai passport if asked but expect she will not be. By US law she must use the US passport for entry/exit to US.
