18 year old shot after he rescues his younger brother from gang.

Medical Staff at the Pattaya Memorial Hospital contacted Banglamung Police late on Tuesday Night to inform them that a young man aged 18 had been admitted with a gun shot wound to his leg. Police arrived and spoke with the victim and his 16 year old brother who explained that the pair were eating dinner at a restaurant in Soi Kow Noi when the younger brother received a call to pick her girlfriend up from nearby Soi Burapa.

When he arrived at the location where his Girlfriend was waiting for him, the boy spotted a group of 5 men who were preventing the pair from leaving the Soi.

The boy called his brother who soon arrived. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to reason with the group and one of the men produced a gun and shot at the victim, Khun Jitagorn. The gang then fled in the direction of the Sukumvit Road. Police are investigating.

The ins and outs and whys and wherefores aren't the real issue. There seems to be a growing trend of random shootings and of firearms in the hands of youngsters. Sure, there have been guns used in local crimes before, but even when doing say a gold shop, the gun is used to smash the display cases or at worst, pistol whip the staff. However, this and other reported instances show an unnerving trend to fire off a shot, not a particularly well-aimed shot but it's consequences can still be catastrophic. Like the crack heads that would car-jack, rob AND kill in the worst parts of US cities, it looks like they are either getting braver here or more are on drug induced highs at the time.

Completely agree with you.

If strong control is not established soon by the local law enforcement - Pattaya will turn into another Compton.

If the local force is not up to the task a national force beeds to be brought in to clean out this gun culture - and NOW, not in the distant future. You can stamp-out a small fire, but a large fire consumes and destroys everything.

But I doubt the political will is there.

Good point HB. The new mayor didn't mention anything that I can recall about building a police force big enough to properly serve and protect the huge cowpat that Pattaya has become. If he thought cutting down the beach road trees for a better sea view was inspirational, I really do fear for the future.
