Wouldn't be one of those case where เกรง (kreng) can be used?

Riga has an excellent point. From Lexitron, a slight expansion on Riga's suggestion:

เกรงขาม [graehngM khaamR] [V] be in awe of; venerate; fear; reverence; respect with fear

Syn. กลัวเกรง, กลัว, คร้าม, เกรง

Here is an example from last year's newspaper:

คอมมูนิดจึงเหมือนเราตรงที่ชอบสอนให้เกรงขามรัฐ และไม่เปิดทางเลือกอื่นในการแก้ไขปัญหาชีวิตของคนมากไปกว่าทางเลือกที่รัฐจัดให้

The communists are just like us in that they teach (us) to be in awe of the State and not to choose solutions to problems in our lives other than those chosen for us by the State.
