3 Months Automatically Given?

Featured Replies

Hi Lopburi3 -- just to make sure I got it correct.

a) a multiple entry tourist visa will give me 90 days -- and the end of the 90 days I will leave the country re-enter and will be granted another 90 days (or a total of 6 months)

:o do I have to request the 90 days upon arrival to the Immigration officer?

Many thanks :D

A: There is no such thing as a multiple entry tourist visa (multiple meaning unlimited). Tourist visas are for a set number of entries, single and double being the most often issued - triple and quadruple more rarely.

And no, you will not get 90 days automatically on a tourist visa. A tourist visa gives you 60 days, which can normally be extended (against a fee) for another 30 days at a local immigration office inside Thailand. Note that citizens of certain countries only gets 30 days when entering on a tourist visa, but if you are from a "western" country you will most likely get 60 days.

B: You will automatically be given 60 days when entering on a tourist visa.

What you obtain on a tourist visa entry is either 60 days or 30 days (depending on your passport). That period can normally be extended for 30 days at a cost of 1,900 baht at an immigration office inside Thailand.

Now I am totally confused. I was told at the Thai Consulate in New York that I could apply for a "multiple entry tourist visa". The cost is $175.00 and the "double" entry is only $65.00.

I would like to stay in Thailand for 90 days, does it mean that I have to go out after 60 days and return.

Can you please explain further. Honestly, I am not that stupid but it is terrible confusing. Many thanks.

You are not talking about a tourist visa. You are talking about a non immigrant visa. Big difference.

The non immigrant visa allows an entry for 90 days (single entry). A multi entry is valid for one year from date of issue and each entry gets a 90 day stamp. I suspect you have business travel or Thai wife as this is not issued to tourists.

O.K. Now, I understand the difference. Many thanks. By the way, they did mentioned that will be valid for one year.

You should be stamped for 90 days on each entry but be sure to check as if busy they could pick up the wrong stamp.
