Senate starts fist-fight probe

BANGKOK: -- The Senate has started a probe into a fist-fight between two senators late last month.

The enquiry will report the results of its investigation to the Senate speaker within two weeks.

A committee appointed to probe the senators' brawl is scheduled to meet again today to gather information and evidence on the incident.

The Bangkok Senator, Pol. Gen. Pratin Santiprapop, and the Mae Hong Son Senator, Adul Wanchaithanawong, will be interrogated by the committee later.

“The result of the probe will be sent to the House Speaker Uthai Pimchaichon within two weeks along with suggestions on how to boost the image of the Senate,” the committee chair, Chon Wongkhan, told TNA yesterday.

The Senate Speaker, Suchon Chaleekrue, will then decide whether to punish the two senators involved in the brawl.

Pol. Gen. Pratin, a former national police chief, punched Mr. Adul during a Senate debate two weeks ago after a heated exchange.

Pol. Gen. Pratin has since resigned from the House’s Ethics and Regulations Commission, but has refused to resign as a Senator because of concerns over the cost of replacing him – the government would have to pay 18 million baht for an election to fill his seat.

Several senators have demanded Pol. Gen. Pratin’s resignation.

They accuse him of damaging the Senate’s image and reputation.

Would this be considered losing face??  They did fight in public  :o

well if you consider in the middle of the Senate with cameras rolling a public place, then i would say definatly yes.

I think that face certainly had something to do with it.

Why did they fight??  :o

Something about the Hon Member for Mae hong Son allegedly calling Prathin "stupid", after the latter allegedly accused the former of being involved in drugs. Shudder the thought of a Senator being involved in such dirty dealings. Or sinking to public brawling for that matter. :D
