Television Repairs?

As anyone used or can recommend a good Tv repair man?

In or near Maprachan would be ideal but I don't mind going into Pattaya or Naklua. I would prefer someone who does house calls, ( I don't fancy humping my TV around the shops )

I don't think this is a major repair as the TV works but we have a problem with switching it on! :o:D

I've used a repair shop that gave a good service at a resonable price located in the basement floor of Tuk.com.

As you enter from south pattaya rd, go down the short escalator and its on the right hand side, opposite the Tops supermarket entrance.

Don't know if they'll come to your house but it's worth going to ask them.

Appreciate both your replies but for one thing I don't fancy lugging my TV down the stairs at Tuk Com even if I could park my truck near enough the doors not to get a hernia on the way! Will go and inquire about home service though.

As for Nomchai, I'm afraid in the past their service as not been very good. Once waited 4 months to get a small part for a new washing machine fitted under guarantee. They kept saying it was taking a long time to arrive from Italy to which I answered that I could walk to Italy in that time. Also tried to get a refrigerator repaired there and they wanted nearly the price of a new one!

If you drive around the lake, towards Naklua (Soi Chayapornviti), a few hundred meter before the junction with the road towards crocodile farm is a PTT fuel station.

Almost directly opposite is a TV repair shop in a corner shop house. Has some empty TV shells outside.

Done several repairs for me. Reasonable priced. Some completely dead TV's, repair between 300 and 800 Baht. Guess he'll do out calls, especially round the lake as it's not far for him.

There's another one on the corner with the little soi to the left just past the PTT station. Never used him though...

Monsieur Happy,

I have a similar problem to you - accept I really cannot carry my tele.

Its a 55 inch Phillips Rear Projection 'beast'

I would love to see someone steal it - it is heavy.

I went to Numchai where we bought it and they want to come and pick it up and send it away.

I would rather someone came to the house - the football season starts next week and it would be sorely missed.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for your help

Numchai, Sukhumvit road, between Siam Country Club and Neunplabwan, have their own service center behind the main store.

Numchai won't come out to the house - not even local. I actually bought my tele there so I thought they might make an exception. The guy who works there gave my wife the phone number of his friend who could do the job, but its a wrong number. We may go back and ask him to write the number down again if there are no other options. The trouble is he did this 'quietly' so the manager was not aware - a bit awkward to go back and ask again really.

I have taken my TV to the little shop opposite Kiss restaurant on soi Siam CC.

He did have some big rear projection sets there.

I don't think he does out calls as he is disabled but at least you can park right next to his shop.

I am keeping my fingers crossed because I want to watch F1 at the w/end and next week it's the Olympics!

Not true! I've had Numchai come to my house and repair a similar rear projection TV. (Eventually it broke again and was more expensive to repair than to buy a new LCD TV but that's another story)

Ok - I will try again then. The tele broke down a couple of weeks ago and our first stop was Numchai. Maybe they will come out if we pay extra or something??? I will go there again tomorrow - will let you know how I get on.

Glad you got it sorted out - I just tried moving my tele - its on wheels so moves easily enough- but its impossible to lift - so I will have to get someone out here.

Well I did not expect 'intrigue' in trying to get a TV repaired. My wife and I went back to Numchai yesterday. We were told that they will come out and fix the TV on site. If they cannot fix it, then they will have to take it away. If we choose for them not to fix it - then we will have to pay 500 baht 'callout' fee. Fair enough they are coming tomorrow.

So, why when we went there last time were we told this could not be done and then a guy 'quietly' gave us the phone number of his friend who could do the job. If we had not lost the number, then we would have given this guy a call.

Both of us speak Thai (my wife is Thai!), so there is absolutely no doubt about what occurred during the first visit.

I guess it is not that important, but it seems I now have to be wary of trying to accomplish even simple tasks :o

I wont bother posting on this again, but in fairness to Numchai, I will just add this post. This morning 3 guys came to my house. They switched on the TV, saw the fault and wanted to take the TV away. I said no to that and I asked if they could repair it there.

It appears they can only 'check' a TV on site and have to take it back for 'repair'. However, they agreed to just remove the part they believe to need replacing, will order a new one and come back and replace it - on-site.

They then removed the circuitry from the back of the tele and left. They will replacde the part, test it and come back and fit it on site.

So in reality they are doing what I wanted ie: repairing the tele on site. Fair enough.

So 'complaint' closed!! :o

Just to let you know that I got my set back on Friday. The guy couldn't source the spare part at first but got one a day later.

I was able to park right in front of his shop and the TV is at the moment working fine. He has given us a 90 day guarantee.

Much of the sales staff you see in TV stores are not employees of the stores but staff from the manufacturer "on loan". This goes for all stores, including Numchai, Carrefour, Lotus, etc. That's why different staff have different agendas. The guy you spoke to was probably from another company and wanted to get a kickback from his friend for referring you. If you go directly to the repair office behind the main Numchai building you would avoid this.
