Been trying to get rid of those tiny ants that pop up all over the place and nothing seems to work on them.

The other day the wifie came home with this stuff that seems to actually work. It’s a thick liquid that has to be diluted in water and sprayed on the areas where the ants hang out.

I tried some using one of those spray thingies and it does seems to work, no little ants in that area yet after some days. Usually after using a normal insect spray they are back the next day.

The stuff is a bit toxic so have to be careful using it but it seems to do the job. Apparently it also kills other nasties including millipedes and lasts up to 2 months.

Wifie bought it in the local store so don’t know if it will be available in places like Tesco but the local builders yard should stock it as it really seems to be more for the commercial market.

Most of my little ants live in the loft/roof space so on our next visit to a superstore I’m going to get one of those pump up spray things that gardeners use and spray the whole roof area and hope that will get rid of them and any other little nasties living up there. :D

That is good stuff. I've used it for a couple of years and haven't had any ant problems. I use a garden sprayer and spray the exterior house wall up high enough so that the rain doesn't wash it off. I also spray an unbroken circle around any doors and windows.

I Googled the active ingredient and it's listed as safe enough for spraying mosquito nets for keeping down mosquitoes. I sprayed the ceilings and top of the walls of the bathrooms in our house and it seems to help with any mosquitoes that do get into the house. I only spray every 3 or 4 months but that seems to do the trick.

I got mine at HomeMart but I've also seen it at Global House and some of the local building stores. They also make it in a form that you use for poisoning the ground for termites so make sure you get the right one like in Daffy's picture.

It's the lower priced version of Chaindrite right? Works well when diluted, 1 Ltr of this stuff to 40 Ltrs of water.

A word of warning, I have over 40 coconut trees and in order to kill the coconut eating bugs you have to spray high and that of course carries the mist back over to the person spraying. Symptoms If you don't wear a mask, goggles, rubber gloves and long sleeves is first a prickling on the skin like you are standing under a water mist spray, this then turns into a raging burning all over the skin which will keep you awake all night.

I've been there so know how uncomfortable it is so cover up before you spray, even the small hand held sprayers make a mist which comes back onto any bare skin.

I found that out all by myself :o

As I was only doing a small test spray I did not bother with any protection and you are right got some mist on my arms and it did keep me awake most of the night. Hate to think how it would have been if I had done a full job of spraying. :D

Will definitely get some goggles and mask and wear a long sleeve shirt when I spray the roof area.

Thanks for the tip. I usually spray the house in the evening when the wind dies down. I wear glasses and a mask but to cut down on clothes that have to have the insecticide washed out I only wear shorts. So I have a lot of skin exposure. It doesn't take very long to spray the house and then I shower afterwards. I guess I wash it off quickly enough because I've never noticed any reaction and I have pretty sensitive skin. I'll be more careful next time.

When properly diluted (40:1), does it leave noticable residue/stain on a flat latex paint?

I'm getting to my wit's end trying to eliminate those tiny ants from my condo, and wonder if it's practical to spray all the walls and door/window frames to form a border which the ants won't cross.

I'm on the top floor of my building, and seem to be on a pathway between their nest and someplace else. If I could just get them to bypass the interior of my condo, they're most welcome to trot through the open rafters *above* my ceiling.

This stuff really does work in the month or so since I used it no ants have appeared in the sprayed areas. :D

The stuff is diluted with water quite a lot so it goes a long way and does not seem to leave any residue. I have only sprayed it on walls, wood window and door frames so don’t know how fabrics will react.

Once dry there appears to be no trace of it, you can’t see it and nothing sticky or tacky to touch.

Don’t know about pets, I would think that if you keep them away for a while after spraying and the liquid is dried there would be no problem unless they like the taste and lick it. Though from the stinging of the skin that I got while applying it I doubt any animal would lick it a second time.

To be on the safe side you could spray round the ceiling corners and round window and door frames but not down to cat level.

There may be some advice for pets on the website.
