August 2, 200817 yr 7 northern, northeastern provinces warned of flash floods BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department Saturday warned residents of seven northern and northeastern provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains and possible flash floods. The department said in its morning forecast at 4 am that Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Sukhothai, Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin would be hit with heavy rains and possible flash floods. The department explained that the low pressure ridge over the northern and northeastern regions coupled with influence of southwest monsoon would cause heavy rains in the upper part of the country. The department said about 70 per cent of areas in Bangkok would also be hit by rains Saturday. -- The Nation 2008-08-02
