Bangkok Bank Strict On Spelling Of Name On Account

Featured Replies

The english spelling of my wife's name on her bank account in Thailand is different than that on her passport. I have a joint account with her abroad, and wish to wire money to her bank account in Thailand. However our bank abroad will only wire transfer, "payable to" the account of one of the account holders. I still must provide SWIFT and account numbers, but I guess they specify on the wire that it's for a certain person.

Since the english spelling on her passport is different than that of the receiving Thai bank account, will this be a problem?

Get her to open another bank account in Thailand with the identical spelling as that in the UK.

What's does the spelling on her passport have to do with the spelling on her bank account? Just send it with the spelling on the bank account. Is some one checking her passport?

Really, what does the passport and the name have to do with anything? While your at it, feel free to wire me some money too. All you need is my account number. :o

All you need is my account number. :o

No, you need the full name with correct spelling, but there is no need for the spelling on the account and passport to be the same.

What a bank transfer actually asks for is

Account number of bank (branch) in Thailand money is going to be transfered to

their SWIFT

their full address

the Thai address of the account holder

the amount of the transfer and currency to be transfered

because some banks can be really a pain in the ass and insist upon above.

Just noticed the OP says it is a joint account he is wiring into. He can then put his own name on the wire tranfers and the beneficiary.
