Hi,

I currently hold an 'ED' educational non-immigrant visa, soon to expire. I wanted to extend it since I will be travelling around a bit after finishing the educational part of my stay but it would have been too complicated, so I will leave the country to get the 30 day on arrival visa (have a swiss passport). However, my return flight to Switzerland is about 50 days after my re-entry date. I was planning to fly to Hong Kong 2 weeks after getting my 30 day stamp and then come back into Thailand. My question now: Will I get a new stamp on returning from HK for another 30 days, or will the old stamp stay valid (since it's not expired yet)? If I would get a new stamp that would be exactly enough to keep me legally in Thailand until I fly back.

Hope that makes sense and thanks for any help :o

All right, thanks. And as long as I'm under the 90 day limit I will be fine, right? Even if I was already in Thailand more than 90 days with my ED visa.

Yes, you will be alright. The 90 days in a 6 month period rule only applies to visa exempt entries. Stay on a visa is not counted to this.

You will get a new 30 day stamp.

All entry stamps and Visa extensions DO EXPIRE upon leaving the Kingdom.

Unless you have a Re-entry Permit...

Upon leaving the Kingdom the Re-entry Permit replaces the Entry Stamps or Visa Extensions.

I hope that one day there will be a worldwide free travel agreement (but I probably won't live to see it happen :o ). In the meantime, thanks for the advice, seems that I'm covered for the moment.

That is a fine point to be sure, but it is accurate...I stand corrected :o
