Hi guys, hopefully somebody can shed some light on this......

I just got a Zyxel 660HW-T1 v2 modem to replace my D-Link G604T. I had no real problem with the D-Link, just that the wireless had stopped working. The place in Pantip recommended the Zyxel, and a friend told me it works great with her True connection. So far it has been incredibly unreliable. Pages time out quite often, and it seems that the modem is dropping the connection to True.

I've been googling to find a solution, and it seems that there is a problem with wireless and Mac OS 10.5.4, which is what I have on the latest Macbook. I don't know if this is related though, as I have the same issue when I'm connected via ethernet.

So, is it the firmware? I have V3.40(AZX.0) | 09/17/2007, which seems to be unique to Thailand. I googled, and came up with a bunch of pages in Thai, but not being able to read Thai, it doesn't help me much. If any kind soul is willing to translate anything that might give a clue to a solution, it would be highly appreciated! http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=V...G=Google+Search

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have a 660HW with the same firmware level. My internet connection also drops out some times, but I think it is a problem with the ISP, rather than the router (I am on TOT bestcyber). Check the lights on the router; if it is just the Internet light that goes out, I would reckon it is just a blip at the ISP (but could be wrong). If the DSL light regularly goes out also, it could well be a router problem, or maybe a line problem.

Hi

Experienced the same with the same model. It disconnected after approx. 30 min. (all the time) Then I had to restart the box.

I have maxnet.

My solution: I replaced my Zyxel modem/router with a Linksys WAG200G.

my first option with all the ADSL connection woes would be to check the standard of the phone cable from the socket to the street connection - very dodgy wire connections and humid weather can cause havoc with the data link - and for the cheapness of 10-20 metres of phone cable you may solve your dropout problems.

Some Modems are more susceptible to power fluctuations than others. I always had line drop out issues until I bought a UPS which allowed more connections than just the computer. I use D-link wired to workstation - and then a D-link Access Point for wireless.

For me: Connecting the modem to a UPS solved the issue. I still get occasional drop-outs - but nowhere near like before.

To add more info here:

Before i changed to Linksys, I had Maxnet tech. people at my house checking the line and the signal, and my router was already connected to ups. But this did not help my Zyxel router.

Thanks for the replies guys. I haven't had time to work on this, but it's definitely something to do with the modem. I tried the D-Link again, and it's very stable and it hardly ever times out. Maybe I have to call True......

If that doesn't work, I'll be making the dreaded trip back to Pantip to exchange the modem. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a wireless router that works well with True and Macs. baker, are you happy with the Linksys?

Thanks again.

If you know that D-Link works well on your setup why take a risk and try another make of router

In England I tried many different routers when I was having trouble with BT the best router that I found to hold a connection was a Netgear and D-Link was the next best I use a Netgear here in Thailand on TOT still have a few disconnections but mostly the fault of TOT

Also you cannot go by recommendation because someone on a good line close to an exchange will not have the same amount of disconnections that you seem to have

I am guessing that your line is marginal and needs a good router to hold the connection

So far, I am very happy with my Linksys.

Had no problem with my Linksys, has been disconnected a couple of times, but thats all maxnets fault.
