August 10, 200817 yr I did exactly the same: quit job and let house out in order to chill in Thailand for 6 months and write a book. Result? Stayed for 20 months, write jack shit and partied hard. Read less, write more. The only problems I had was with renting my house - it's a freaking nightmare if you get the wrong tenant, so be VERY careful. Don't be greedy on rent, go through an agent, get a large deposit and rent in advance, and bomb them out at the first signs of default. And don't trust anyone, even if the person you are letting to is supposed to be a mate. I know this from bitter experience. It is a mate that i am renting to but i have other people i would trust with my life keeping an eye on my house and sorting any problems that could arise but thanks for the heads up. One of the mains things i feel i need to do is really get myself out in the sticks away from any tempations and force myself to write everyday, even if for only a couple of hours. Have you written anything sinse? are you still in Thailand? No, I got back a few days ago. I hardly wrote a thing - you need to be far more disciplined than me. You'll be ok if you're not a party animal. I also rented to a "mate" and had people to keep an eye on the place, but you need to remember you/they are powerless as soon as they move in.
