As no one has answered I'll give it a go as we have the same first name.

When i lived in Phayao (the city) about 5 years ago, I was the only Farang in Town and it was nice to see a tour bus arrive so you could talk to someone...LOL I think it's changed a bit but not much. I knew an English guy that lived south of Kwan Phayao in some small village off 1021, the name escapes me, but the last I heard they went back to the UK. There are some english speaking teachers in Phayao at the university. It's about 50 Km from Chun to Phayao on 1021 and may be longer if you cut over to 1202, so that's a bit of a drive to visit anyone. Best of luck finding someone that speaks English, you may have to expand your nationality search.. :o .

Santiburi golf course every Tuesday you will find yer jocks, Sassenachs, sheep admirers and potato blokes as well as Yanks, Aussies and more. Get there for an 8am start Martin. You are more than welcome. Thursdays and Saturdays also. We can sort out the drinking arrangements after that :o

Sorry for not answering sooner.

Cheers Chang35baht(Stuart from Edinburgh).

P.S. you won`t see me there for the next 4 months, as it`s time for me to go back to work.

Hi,

Putting those four groups together in a bar suggests you may be a boxing fan!

Good luck in your search

Next time I'm in the 'Rai I'll throw my hat in the ring....

But I don't know if I qualify....Welsh-American father's side, East Anglia Brit mother's side.

Griffith and Bull are the family names.

But I don't think you're looking to meet Colonials.... :o

I never knew that there are so many British in Chiang Rai until yesterday afternoon when I visited their 'Sunday Afternoon Clubhouse' at Koh Loy. About ten gentlemen, from all parts of the United Kingdom enjoyed a pleasant, polite and absolutely peaceful conversation and enjoyed, in surprisingly modest amounts, a wide range of alcoholical refreshments at the same time.

They all seem to be a kind of house fathers, because they all left about dinnertime.

There was one Australian present, but he seemed to be OK too and he didn't fall asleep as he did last Friday after a long golf session.

The Friday afternoon/evening almost the same society meets at the Beach Resturant (not to be mistaken for the Beach Restaurant). Some Swiss blow on their Alphorns as well at that occasion and one or the other lost Dutchman will show up.

Also here Australians and Americans are welcome, though the last ones only when they promise not to be too dominant(sorry Phil and sorry Danny, of course you are not meant).

It was a very pleasant atmosphere, not this kind of competitive screaming you usually observe when people from the British Commonwealth (?) meet (and, as mentioned before, the Americans).

Also different from the Dutch, who revel in gossip as soon as one of them leaves the table for a sanitary stop.

It was very interesting and I enjoyed it.

Hat off for the British (and their Australian, Swiss, American and Dutch friends)

Limbo :D

PS: To my great enjoyment I heard yesterday, that the Nestor of the British community, Mr. D. himself, soon will join out ranks again. Welcome back Old Fart :o

Hello Limbo

Fellow Brit

It is as simple as it could be, dear Lannaman!

Opposite the old colonial style Sala Klang Kao building behind the Post Office at the Singha Klai Road (about 1910, Dr. Briggs, who else?) you cross the bridge to the 'island' Loy (TAT office, YMCA and middle school for adults).

Follow the road turning twenty meters after the bridge to the right, passing the library. Around the corner you will enjoy the view of one of the most beautiful trees in Chiang Rai town. Fifty meters further you will notice where the new bridge over the Mae Kok River will be built.

Just follow this soi-like road straight on (also where 'the road' seems to turn to the right) for maybe fivehundred meter and I am sure that you won't miss it. It is at your right hand side.

What is a beach?

I think we all think about a lot of water in front of us and for the rest, preferably a blue one, air.

The beach of Chiang Rai is different!

Sand?

Yes!

Parasols?

Yes!

Friendly youngsters bringing you whatever you want to eat and/or drink?

Yes!

Water (a very essential question)?

Yes!

It's all very basic, it is actually a river.

And it is there .....

Also this one you will find easily, it's about in the middle of 'the beach area', ten meters from the road and second in the row, but you also have to find out when it's open and that is not the easiest part :D

Anyhow, not during the weekends and I am not sure about the Monday either :o .

Good luck!

Limbo :D
