Back home when we had farming issues, we went to either the county farming extention service or the university agriculture dept and they had info, consultation, visited your farm, provided seeds, plant material and generally supported the farmer.

Is there such a service here in the north [Chiang Mai area]. Off the top of my head, I would think of Maejo University, Royal Project [off hiway 108], CMU.

And English would be greatly appreciated. Or does anyone have any contacts of people that I could consult with re: developing 7 rai of rice land into a diversified profit making farm?

I'd like to post this on the CM forum as well as the farming forum to get more replies, so please mods....don't bump me.

Please contact Professor Nipon of Maejo University, 083 7607887 and ask to see him if he is available. Tell him Heng referred you. Prof. Nipon speaks good English and is one of the advisers at the Royal Project. His specialty is vegetable technology. If he can't help you I am sure he can get you to get in touch with the correct department. Many department heads there are now overseas trained and are fluent in English.

If you would like to grow vegetables perhaps I could be of help.

There are limited seeds available here, Rimping has a small selection and some shops near warowat market have some as well.

I mostly get mine from friends comming over from the US and have shipments sent to them and they bring or mail to me. territorialseeds.com is my favorite source. google will reveal more seed companies. In the winter time I grow lettuces and arrugula [rocket] successfully in CM, but hard to grow in the hot summer or rainy season.

I would like to include in this forum some websites of international seed companies here that have set up research stations in Thailand to breed many varieties of seeds both flower and vegetable specially suitable for Thailand and other tropical countries and they have their stations right here in Chiangmai. Green thumb backyard gardeners can buy seeds in small packages from their sales staff and ask for advice how to grow their products.

Some companies may even allow you to visit their research stations where their farming staff grow their crops to gain first hand knowledge.

Also I know of a garden supply company where you can buy all your garden supplies and another one that sells fertilizers and pesticides both organic and inorganic.

Can someone at Thaivisa please let me know if it's proper to post websites, company names and contact phone numbers here.

With a plastic roofing material and good ventilation many vegetable and flower leaf diseases can be avoided. Plus having a 40 mesh clear net around your greenhouse and some yellow sticky traps inside you could be growing pesticide free vegetables for your family consumption.
