The following article can be read at Softpedia and is interesting for those who using the Windows Server OS. But what it really means that Windows 7 Server Is Windows Server 2008 R2? If that is true than there wouldn't be much changes with Windows 7!

By the way, Sever 2008 is an excellent OS and I'll change from Server 2003 to 2008 soon for my web server.

Windows 7 Server Is Windows Server 2008 R2

Windows 7 Server and Windows Server 2008 R2 are both, much in the same sense, future iterations of the Windows Server platform.

It has become an established tradition with the Redmond company to release minor and major versions of the Windows Server operating system alternatively. In this context, Windows Server 2008 R2 fitted the role of a minor update, while Microsoft already confirmed Windows 7 Server as the next major release of Windows Server. However, a new piece of information coming from the Redmond giant now indicates that Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Server are one and the same thing.

I would not be surprised if Windows 7 compared to Vista will not be a major upgrade in terms of functionality either.

You could be very right!

Server 2008 is directly bundled with Vista. You get this latest to know at the moment you do a manual update and have to see, that the updates just coming from Vista Update and not server 2008 update!
