An international development organization seeks to employ an Information and Communications Technology officer to provide IT support, maintain a small office network and manage a virtual private server and website. We are looking for someone who has a high level of initiative, who can work independently with attention to detail and who *cares* about computer security. Attractive salary and benefits. Selection criteria

1. Ability to assure the security of the organisation's computer infrastructure including small office LAN (20 computers), virtual private server, email and website through the development and implementation of appropriate security policies and practices.

2. Ability to assure the protection and confidentiality of the organisations records and communications through the development and implementation of appropriate backup procedures and privacy controls.

3. Ability to maintain the office computers, internet facilities and LAN in good working order, including:

a. Maintenance and improvement of network infrastructure.

b. Maintenance of anti-virus and spyware protection on all computers.

c. Liaison with our ISP regarding internet service issues.

d. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and troubleshooting.

4. Ability to maintain a register of the organisation's computer assets, its specifications, and who it has been issued to.

5. Ability to provide technical maintenance and support the ongoing development of the organization's website (XOOPS or ImpressCMS content management system).

6. Ability to support and actively contribute to the development of project proposals for submission to international development agencies with regards to ICT issues.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in information technology.
  • Minimum of three years experience in network administration.
  • Minimum of five years experience in system administration of LAMP servers (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP).
  • Experience in PHP-based content management systems such as XOOPS, ImpressCMS or Joomla.
  • A committed and disciplined approach to computer security.
  • Capacity to work in a highly multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (written and spoken).

Desirable

  • Programming experience in development of web applications (PHP, MySQL, HTML, Javascript).
  • Experience in database development (MySQL and/or Access).
