August 24, 200817 yr Hi This is my first post on here. My Dad unfortunately died two weeks ago but owned a house in Thailand. As I understand the rules in Thailand, foreigners can't actually 'own' a house in Thailand and in my Dad's case, a company was set up of which his Thai girlfriend was his partner. I understand it that upon death, the house automatically passes to his partner as foreigners can't own property anyway? Be grateful for any advices on this. Many thanks Kronk
August 25, 200817 yr As you probably already know, talk to a lawyer. Hopefully your father had a will and hopefully it details who is supposed to inherit his stake in the company that owned the house. It may be that you are now in a position of control with regard to the company. On the other hand, your father's Thai girlfriend may be the recipient of his shares. Don't assume that just because you are not Thai that you are not the rightful heir to this company and subsequently the property owned by it. I and I'm sure others here would be interested to know what you find out.
