Thai protesters launch attack on Bangkok police HQ

BANGKOK, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Protesters trying to overthrow Thailand's government launched an attack on Bangkok's police headquarters on Friday before being repulsed by what appeared to be teargas, a Reuters reporter at the scene said.

After the assault by around 2,000 people, protesters were seen vomiting, the reporter said.

Good ! :o

Will make them think twice, trying to do it again,

What's next after occupying Government House, storming Police stations, blocking airports......???

storming 4 and 5* hotels and throw tourists out of the windows ?

It has been said over and over again. The northeast elects governments and Bangkok removes them.

Let them govern themselves for a few years. The Newin-like piranhas will strip each other to the bone and eliminate competitors. When there's NOTHING left then the population will cry again for Bangkok to run things for them and send free money or programs they don't know they are paying for to begin with.

Nation reporting Samak considering emergency law. He claims authorites urged him but he want s to wait. Considering Anupong and the supreme commander have both said the time is not right, Who in authority urged him

Oh and we know Metropolitan police chief Assawin is being bypassed

The country is fast reaching a state of anarchy. Samak has little choice but to invoke a state of emergency now. This will play into the PADs game plan. But still, no one knows for sure which way the the generals will choose to go. I personally dont think the generals want to be handed government again. Perhaps it will end with a house dissolution and fresh elections. Then the whole thing can start over again.

This is moving rapidly into who knows what. The civil court has cancelled the eviction order for government house on the grounds of police brutality according to the Natyion. On TNN protestors are claiming they have been tear gassed again. Numbers are getting huge. Samak is waiting until tomorrow,. All the nmilitary commanders are saying it is not time for SoE.

It does look like Samak is now becoming part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Funny just after he signed the militaryies own suggested reshuffle he suddenly seems to be less well supported.

An SoE will only work with a political solution installed at the same time imho. Unfortunately i dont think there is one

Edited to add tear gas was fired at police HQ. Apparently Wongsawat was in command at the time. Police claim they heard gunshots and yet TV shows it looking peaceful. Panic seems to be setting in everywhere

It could be argued that the real conflict here is not clean politics versus dirty politics- certainly not Thaksin vs Sondhi- not Issan versus the city/south- but rather constitutionally designed mechanisms for changing governments vs non-constitutional mechanisms of changing governments.

And if Samak doesn't stand fast- in three short years the score will be non-constitutional:2. Constitutional: 0

In a developing democracy- that is quite a lead for the non-constitutional mechanisms

Blaze I could add a few more things that this is certainly about but I better not :o

ถ้าตำรวจทำร้ายประชาชนอีกครั้งในครั้งนี้ สถานีตำรวจทุกแห่งจะลูกเป็นไฟ

I copied this from the Matichon article (quoted in an earlier post) and it does not say too hot to work . It clearly says " If the police harm the people again, every police station will go up in flames."

In the same article it says that PAD are after the police that have beaten or threatened protestors, I presume this is the reason they are trying to take over the Police Headquarters.

Basically you can sit here and argue about vote buying and democracy until you go blue in the face , it went past that long ago.

Name me one other country where this would be tolerated (present day, 21st century).

Thailand basically has a military that is a farce. They are so divided, factionalised and power hungry that they can't be trusted when they are needed. The very force that is meant to protect the country has to be kept locked up in its kennel as no one can predict the outcome when they are let out. If they had any pride they should hang their heads in shame.

Update:

Nevermind... it seems like it is a Vonage problem. I was able to get through using my mobile phone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anybody know if international telephone service has been cut in Thailand?? Currently I am unable to call my wife in Thailand. I thought it might be a mobile phone issue (that is what she has), so I tried to call a regular phone (Bangkok Bank) and the same deal... all I get is the fast-pitch tone that indicates that the phone line(s) is not in service.

P.S. I used 011-662-645-5555 to contact Bangkok Bank; for my wife's number, 011-668-7xxx-xxxx

Just an other one-sided idiotic posting - it was quiet obvious while ever the "authorities" stayed out of the picture and in the back-ground there wasn't any real problems -other than an ongoing protest. But esculate the conflit as was done today by raiding the protesters and man-handling a lot of old people, women and kids - well, is there any real need to spell it out for those with limited critical thinking skills.

Samak signals a possible Emergency Law

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej did not rule out the use of the controversial Emergency Law, saying he wanted to wait after the ceremony for today's opening of a governmentsponsored that will be preside by HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Samak said today's event, organised to boost national unity, has been relocated from the Government House to Suan Amporn.

Speaking to reporters after more than two hours of meeting with members of the Defence Council that was attended by military top brass and senior security officials, Samak said authorities suggested that he declared the state of emergency but added that he wanted to wait after today's event before he take up the matter.

TOC -

The leader of the mobile PAD unit claims the people were only there to demand justice for their fellow protesters who were hit by police during their raid of Makawan Bridge rally site.

Some of the PAD protesters claimed, during the raid, the police have stolen valuables from their bags at Makawan, *old habits die hard* and they went to the National Police Bureau to demand back their belongings.

Samak looks like he is about to explode or burst into tears on TV. Maybe he has played one too many games of changing sides

Now he is saying he is not nominee of thaksin after setting up PPP, and even asks what PAD want from him and criticized state labour union in joining the protest but still insist he won’t back out until the last day. :o He will wait until tomorrow and see what will come next.

The civil court has cancelled the eviction order for government house on the grounds of police brutality according to the Natyion.

Now this really is getting weird. A complete breakdown of law and order with the courts apparently siding with the anarchists.

One crime doesnt cancel out another crime as the courts should well know.

Looks like no one wants to handle this hot potato. The generals are saying its not time, -- which basically means they want no part of it and don't know which way to go. Only one thing for Samak to do now is to let the dogs out and see which way they run.

Samak isnt that popular up country it is only the Thaisin brand that helps him. He has previously been extreemly rude to Isaan people.

On your other point of its the Isaan that elects them and BKK that removes them. This time a large base of the crowd unless chnged tonight was actually from places like Chonburi, Chachoengsao, Prachuab, Phechburi and Chumporn. That would be a first !:D

Samak seems really affected by this by the way. He seesm to know he is in a corner and doesnt know how to get out

PAD will not be happy with anyone from PPP in power, so its hard to see how an outcome can be reached even in Samak resigns.

If there is another election, PAD will refuse to stand, like last time, and PPP (or whatever it is called by then) will get more votes and form the govt. PAD, will presumably start protesting again.

hard to see a conclusion....

THAI labour union calls for its members to take leave

BANGKOK: -- Thai International Airways' Labour Union has called for its members to take leave immediately to protest the police's use of forces against anti-government protesters on Friday.

Union's president Jamsri Sukchoterat said that the union voiced disagreement with police's use of forces against the unarmed protesters who just exercised their rights to demonstrate.

"The union then calls for 15,000 members to take immediate leave to protest the government's move. If the violence against the protesters continues, we call for all 25,000 THAI members to stop working," she said.

I doubt he can let them out without approval. He will be looking over his shoulder. If he doesnt deliver the deal maybe someone else in the PPP will. Samak has palyed too many games and lost too much trust

Edited to add: Anupong also said evryone should stick to what the courts say or something like that. Gives Samak less options as the courts said they could stay in his office. This increasingly looks like Samak did something that wasnt on everyones playlist and now isnt getting backed up over it

If a deal is not forthcoming, well then we know what will happen.

The court warrants ordered PAD to dismantle the protest site and disperse from government house but never stated or allow police to use force against the protesters, that why the civil court have to cancelled the eviction order to prevent further bloodshed. The arrest warrant for the PAD leaders still remained.

"They - the key PAD leaders, in particular Sondhi Limthongkul and Chamlong Srimuang - have now refined their argument to propose rural voters in Thailand are too poorly educated to be allowed to elect a parliament, and that it should be a largely appointed body instead."

You know, Mr. Artisi, I find that an insult to the Thai rural voters, poor or not and it shows and confirms WHO Sondhi really is....

A DANGEROUS MAN for the future of Thailand.

I don't give <deleted> about Thaksin and/or Samak, but mind my words:

SONDHI IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS FOR THAILAND !

Time will tell.
