At present I have an X8124r modem supplied by TOT. I want to go WIFI and will shortly be purchasing a laptop with WIFI5300. So I understand that I will need either a Pre-N, N or N1 router. Lots of concrete in my house! I also want a hardware fire-walled one.

At present I just have a 256/128 connection but am shortly upgrading to a 1Mb contract with them, hopefully it will be faster.

I understand that the options are either buy a WIFI Router and stick it on the end of my modem, or buy a Modem WIFI Router all in one. How many RJ-45 connections? probably will hard wire one computer and WIFI on maybe two others.

Please advise what you think is the best way to go, also if I go the second way, will I have a problem getting it to work. TOT just smiled when I suggested buyiong one that was not theirs, their routers are not firewalled so they tell me. Can someone also suggest an actual product. I’m more interested in getting a good functional secure system, than cost. I’m not very computer literate but can read…thanks

The guys from TOT always blame other things than their deplorable service.

I do not run a modem/router from TOT and my system were ready to run at full speed if TOT would do as well. I hate to suggest to you any specific brand but can assure you that my Zyxel would match every single performance increase.

Thanks...firstly I have just upgraded to TOT 1Meg..well actually they have given me it free for the weekend, to see if I want to buy.

Strange thing..www.google.co.th is almost an instantanious connection..howwever when I tracert www'google.co.th..its not that quick...any idears why.

OK back to the Modem/Router. I have seen the Belkin F5D8631 (7999Baht) expensive. The Belkin F5D8633 which includes a wireless n USB adapter (4950Baht) that would be useful with our desktop, adapter cost on its own 2400Baht. Also a D-Link 2740B at 3999. For these three the 'so called' offer runs out today.

Comments on any of these please with a WIFI 5300 enabled computer...thanks again

The Routers from TOT and TT&T at the moment 'Billion BiPac 5210s' are very good as default equipment.

Between the original billion firmware/hardware and tot, tt&t versions are just the login, pre-settings and the logo different. I will just add a wifi router with poppe such as dlink 615 (up to 300 mbp's with latest firmware) ~ 2.300 Baht after the modem and set the modem into bridge mode (use the router with one port as a modem).

I use a Zxel 600 modem with a Linksys wrt54gl (note must be gl more memory than g) I bought this router as with a firmware upgrade (e.g. tomato, hyperwrt) it was written that it performs way beyond its price point and akin more to a cisco (who I think own linksys) proper router than a toy, I am not expert enough to tell you wether it does or not but for me it stands to reason that a router coming from the direction of Cisco is likely to have a better pedigree than one coming from Belkin et al.
