Type O Visa?

Featured Replies

I (Brit) would be grateful if anyone can help me with information in respect of the following situation: I came to Thailand on non immigrant B. My British fiancee joined me, has got a job and work permit. We will marry in Thailand very soon. Can I convert my non B multi to a "spouse" O and if so, can I do it without returning to the UK? My work now takes me to Laos so I don't work in Thailand. Many thanks, in anticipation.

I thought the marriage visa was based on marriage to a Thai national, could be wrong though.

Has she obtained a one year extension of stay for herself yet? Normal procedure if she does is to use marriage and her passport/extension of stay to obtain a non immigrant O visa and then return on that and then obtain an extension of stay to match hers. If she does not have a one year extension there is no provision for you to stay here.

There is no such thing as a marriage visa.

Thanks, that's helpful. Yes, she has obtained a one year extension of stay. My question is, do I have to return to the UK to get my own 'O' visa or can I get one from, say, Singapore? My main aim is to avoid a trip to the UK with associated expense. Regarding the other responses, I'm assuming that the spouse of a brit here doing work on a permit can get some sort of visa that means they don't have to leave every 90 days; I assumed this was an 'O'?

Not making visa runs means an extension of stay. Take the copy of wife passport/extension of stay and your marriage documents to a Consulate (in the area should be fine) and obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa. That will provide a 90 day entry so during the last 30 days of that entry go to Immigration to obtain an extension of stay to match your wife. Not sure if they require you to wait until the last 30 days but you don't need until that time with the visa entry.
