Pattaya-hua Hin Comparisons

Hua Hin

the songthaews only run about every 15- 20 minutes along the main road.

the roads in town are 1 car wide ( no pavements ) and the locals try to kill you with their cars.

there's hardly any bars with girls.

the beach is even worse than Pattaya, and so encroached you can't walk along it at high tide.

accomodation is more expensive.

unless you have a vehicle, the 1 shopping mall is a long walk after the songtheaws stop running in the evening.

there's no equivalent of Walking Street.

the huge hotel right in the middle of the town is an eyesore.

the tuk tuks are a rip off.

the bus depot is a shop house, and has hardly any seating.

there's nothing to do at night ( unless you walk miles to the mall ), except eat at restaurants, drink in a bar or go to the IT shop.

I tried to think of something nice to say, but all I could think of is:

has some nice seafood restaurants over the water.

was able to buy a better sun hat than in Pattaya.

Hua Hin boring to the extreme.

World famous night market with 300 stalls all selling the same rubish.

Everything more expensive than Pattaya.

As mentioned couple of nice seafood restaurants south of the city overlooking the bay, but that's it as far as I'm concerned.

Oh nearly forgot the abundance of jellyfish in the sea and on the beach depending on the currents.

No thank you.

cheers

Forgot to mention that the Railway Station is actually very picturesque. So 3 nice things, then

Sunhats available from the tourist tat stalls on the access way to the beach. Much better than the ones available in Pattaya.

Well I'm finally here in hh. It's honky tonk. It's boring. It's got everything Pattaya has and Pattaya has everything hh has but other than the white sand on the beach, it's boring and I'm looking forward to leaving hh. Just don't ask me what I miss in Pattaya because I do not have the answer. People here are bored. That seems obvious enough though. I'm bored too but I really have no idea what I would be doing differently in Pattaya. I guess it's the vibe.

I've never been to Hua Hin but I can't imagine a beach worse than Pattaya/Jomtien. I was thinking of going to Hua Hin for the BEACH, I already knew about the terminal boredom.

you make your own fun in hua hin , hua hin is not "in your face" like an trashy tailor shop tout and it wont grab you by the arm and pull you in like a pattaya prostitutes promise.

hua hin is for those , young or old , who appreciate a slower way of doing things , who like to linger all afternoon over a seafood lunch , a place where you may ( god forbid) have to fall back on your own resources to make your own entertainment , as opposed to showing up slack jawed and semi lobotomized and waiting for things to happen to you.

the joys of hua hin take a while to sink in and be appreciated , which is why it definately isnt suitable for the superficially minded "kiss me quick" and "wham bam thank you mam" type of people who seem to have tried , convicted and hung hua hin in three minutes because there are not enough seats in the bus station to rest their tired <deleted> after the exhaustion of walking 250 metres or not enough desperate prostitutes to satisfy their superhuman urges night after night.

comparing hua hin and pattaya is like comparing a glass of fine wine with a can of asda special brew , both can be enjoyed , but by different people and in different ways.

There's a nightlife in hh. There's bar/discos/karaokes and they're full of bar girls so I think the comparison & similarity is there. Like most of Thailand, the cities are homogeneous. Remove the blindfold and you could be anywhere in Thailand but Pattaya and BKK are distinct. Hua Hin has better beaches for a city which isn't difficult when being compared to Pattaya. I think Harlem, NY's is cleaner than Pattaya's! But if I can be serious for a moment, I must say that dollar for dollar, pound for pound, and baht for baht, your money goes further in Pattaya than anywhere else in all categories. Pattaya has some of the nicest and cheapest accomodations in the Kingdom in areas near all and far from all the action. Food all over the Kingdom is priced identically in chains and small Thai restos but I judge a city by massage costs [as I am a massage addict] and Pattaya is home to the 100 baht massages which are increasing in numbers in the last year. Then if you are in the mood for companionship, there's that market too. I have no longer the desire to speak of Pattaya's ills. All you must do is go elsewhere to figure that out. There's the seedy south Pattaya side but that entire area is completely avoidable and then there's so many other things to see and do. No comparison to anywhere except Chiang Mai which has no beaches and poorer weather. End of. :o
