I have to say I am totally with the OP on this subject. It has been on my hate list for some time. Along with the use of almost before unique. Nothing is almost unique. It is either unique or not.

One in a similar vein I heard on a Continuously Naff News (CNN) report on the recent Madrid air crash went as follows:-

"We have some information on casualty figures from the Reuters dot com website giving the number of dead as 25. We have to stress that this figure is unsubstantiated and we realise that it is as important for us not to over exaggerate as it is not to under exaggerate."

Over exaggerate? Under exaggerate? This implies that it is okay to exaggerate as long as you don't overdo it.

alright...I think its gone on for long enough

this discussion has been had before, and will continue to come up not just in separate threads of its own, but also within various threads. while I see it, Im closing it.
